Picture books for all ages

I collect children's picture books and am always on the lookout for something a bit different, both for young and older children. I have a number already including authors such as Shaun Tan and Colin Thompson. I would welcome any suggestions for books to add to my collection

i know this is an old post too, but my children really loved that book The Snowman It is a picture book but the story is narrated entirely through pictures, no words. It is actually very well done.

You might like The Lazy Seagull by Johnny Parker and Andrea Foy. It's a cute coming-of-age tale aimed at under 5s about a young seagull learning to fly. It's doing very well at the moment, and sold 35 copies at a 4 hour Waterstones signing recently!
Then of course there is my own book Snofjell It's a fairytale set in Norway, full of folklore and magic. It's aimed at ages 8+ but all ages seem to enjoy it, right up to grown adult. It's being translated into Norwegian this year so that ought to be exciting :)

Eric Pullin has written a collection of small books in simple verse form called the Why series. He also has a collection of novels called Digweed the cat but this does not include pictures. Just recently Eric has just published an ebook called Henry the horse. There is not a lot of horsey childrens books out there. The books are short, but captures some charming storys.

These books are suitable for younger and older children.

Here's a lovely new book, Florentine and Pig Have a Very Lovely Picnic (Florentine & Pig) which has beautiful illustrations, a sweet and engaging story and recipes and crafts at the back! It's a very special book and we all love it here.

The Big Bottom Hunt is on Amazon. It is a lovely story about kids who find a telescope on the beach and trace the bottom print next to it, then ask everyone in the village if it is their bottom. Much more fun than a glass slipper!

Emily Gravett because her stories and pictures are quirky, e.g. Little Mouse's Big Book of Fears.

For a change, would you consider a kids' picture book based on a story created by a 4-year-old kid?
Wouldn't it be fascinating if kids that young can come up with original stories of their own?
Consider this picture book based on a story created by a 4-year-old kid: "How the Hungry T-Rex Got Fixed".
Most likely the storyline might be "just at the level" for children but the fact that the story originated from a very young kid's imagination makes it an intriguing read even for adults like us.

I think one of the most unique children's book authors is Oliver Jeffers - I love his illustrations. The Heart and the Bottle is a really lovely and 'different' story, about a girl who, when her granddad dies, puts her heart into a glass bottle so that she won't have to feel pain again. It's a really beautiful story.

Not quite as 'unusual' but one you may not have heard of - there's an Australian author called Anna Walker and when I was over there I picked up a book by her called I Don't Believe in Dragons. The illustrations are really cute and the story's sweet and funny. The Legend Of One Eyed Jack - it's probably the best drawn picture book out there and a lot of fun! Be warned the art will blow your socks off!
