S. Carter says:
I totally agree with those suggesting Christopher's Stolen and Smith's I Capture the Castle.

Others that I would suggest are:

Looking for Alaska- John Green, its really interesting to read about love and romance from a teen boy's point of view
The Uninvited- Tim Wynne-Jones, a mix of thriller, mystery and a story of family and friendship
Sisters Red- Jackson Pearce, a different take on the dark romance genre with a splash of love
Getting the Girl- Markus Zusak, an amazing story, a teen romance with soul and a story of learning how find your own identity
What I Saw and How I Lied- Judy Blundell, a post WWII love story that pits love against family
Lucas- Kevin Brooks, a story of love and prejudice and wow! what an ending....

Hope this gives you some inspiration
Stacey

Stacey, I completely agree with your suggestion of The Uninvited. I read it recently and loved it. I thought it was really well written, with a fantastic interweaving of family secrets, romance and suspense. I would definitely recommend it.

Hi Kat, Maybe you can help me choose a book or two for my 14 year old daughter who wants something with (quote!) 'a bit more spice'. I would rather openly give her a book or two with 'romantic' explicit scenes than have her choose a book of her own and find it's in the 'rough' category. If you've been there yourself and can help a Dad who's struggling to be protective AND realistic, please do! Cheers for now!

Flotsam

You might consider--Flotsam, By Stephanie Skeem. A fun book with a good message. Although its geared for a younger audience, you may enjoy it.

You might try my Teen Time Travel Novel Tomorrow's Guardian (part of a series with book 2 coming out in the summer:

When schoolboy Tom Oakley discovers he can transport himself through time, he draws the attention of evil men who seek to bend history to their will.

Tom's family are obliterated and he soon faces an impossible choice: To save the world he must sacrifice his family.

Tomorrow's Guardian is the 1st book of the Hourglass Institute Series. It is a Young Adult Science Fiction adventure.

Some Feedback:
What Robert James says about Tomorrow's Guardian:

'Richard Denning, ... keeps the action fast and furious for the 400 or so pages of the book. Diving in and out of time, and in and out of the Twisted Reality (the other universe), there's never a dull moment as the inevitable confrontation with the evil Redfeld, villain of the piece, comes closer and closer.'

'I recommend it to readers around Tom's age, many of whom I confidently expect to absolutely love it. '

I recieved Tomorrows Guardian on Thursday and my youngest James (10) and I are reading it together. It's causing bedtime issues in that he wants to read more than time allows.

Try my book The Ants of Trescotham Hall, out now on Kindle. It's about girls who naturally devolop enhanced abilities and the founding of the school they attend. Full of cool gadgets!! I wrote it especially with bright young girls in mind, but adults seem to enjoy it too.

Try Meant to Be. This is a very good teen paranormal romance. The reviews have been wonderful. Happy reading.
Meant to Be (The Saving Angels book 1)

Krista Miller feels like she has lived her entire life in a glass box with her every emotion on display. She can't help feeling like a defect as her sensitivities have made her socially inept and without any real friends; the one exception being the boy that visits her each night in her dreams.

Krista's emotions are put to the test when a move to California triggers a devastating change to her fantasy world. The nightly comfort that the boy provides has now become a recurring nightmare as he is taken from her by an unseen force.

Struggling to appear normal, Krista enrolls in a new school and finds it to be nothing like she thought. Her new life is sent spiraling out of control from a strange connection with a boy, Mark, who claims to know all her secrets.

As Krista begins to explore the emotions that Mark evokes in her, secrets from their past about their shared connection threatens to separate them just when they have found each other.

Try Selina Penaluna by Jan Page. It is based around the legend of mermaids, but don't let that put you off. It is beautifully written and all the characters have more than one side to them. A romance, history, poetry and legend all mixed to one. A great read. (I'm 13 and I loved it!)
Also, Julia Golding, Julie Hearn, Mary Hooper, Jean Plaidy...

Yes I like K M Peyton too !
ANd Jane Eyre - best romance ever but maybe wait a few years to reallly appreciate it although you could try it now if you liked.
jane Austen - Pride and Prejudice - great romance and her other books too - very witty.

On a more current note then the Twilight Series is good - I have tried the first one and its fine for a 13 year old to read if you want to try that.

What would you do if you found out you were part mermaid? What if they wanted you back? You might like this series. Sweet romantic suspense with a touch of supernatural.

I can't recommend The Hunger Games trilogy highly enough. They are absolutely incredible books - I couldn't stop thinking and talking about them. They could be very 'worthy' because of the very serious subject matter but the storylines are so absorbing and fast-moving and the outcomes are never predictable. My friend's 17 year old daughter lent the first one to me and I couldn't put it down. Have you also read Before I Die - which is also beautiful, bold and amazing. And if this isn't too cheeky, you might like to try my own novel Control Freak, published on Amazon (Henrietta Bond) which is the story of a 17 year old leaving foster care, who thinks she has her life totally sorted. But she hasn't reckoned on a runaway brother, a foster sister who thinks she's pregnant and a blue-eyed boyfriend who's just too good to be true. (Jacqueline Wilson recommends it as 'a sincere, simply told, ultra-convincing story'). Happy reading - whatever you choose!
