They are good and also upscale dvds (And you can also watch the likes of BBC Iplayer, ITV player, 4 on demand etc), as well as that you can put a variety of PC movie files (Including DIVX) and it'll run those.

yep it plays everything on disc, note if you want to stream things to it it will not play .mkv files to my knowledge. It plays the alien anthology blu ray fine and thats a good stress test for it, reference quality video and 5.1 lossless audio.

If you are only intending to watch blu-rays there is not much point in buying a PS3. The picture and audio quality is pretty good for HD and for SD DVDs, but not the best. The new Sony blu-ray players are better in both these deparments. However, if you want to also play avi files (both SD and HD) the PS3 is your best bet. It's what I own.

I've been using my PS3 for watching dvd's, blu-rays, 3-d blu-rays and playing 3-d PS3 games with no problems. I've got a 27 inch LG with 3-d capability connected to my PS3 with a 1.4 HDMI cable and it's great.

Eh!
Dont you mean far superior to DVD players as it is a BluRay player that plays HD Blu Ray discs and upscales SD DVD!
