Hi.
I am looking for a Region A Blu-ray player, as I am an anime fan and very few anime series are released on BD in the u.k., I want to support the local BD market where possible (I have bought the u.k. release of Eden of the East and plan to buy Broken Blade, Angel Beats! and Black Lagoon when they are released here, I have also purchased some u.k. releases of anime movies on BD), but with many titles (especially longer ones) this is not an option.
What I am looking for is a player that:
Can play BDs in full 1080p (if the disc is in that resolution to begin with of course)
Has a good upscaler for DVDs (it doesn't have to be amazing, just good enough that DVDs do not look pixellated on my 32 inch HD TV, though obviously if the DVD itself has problems with picture quality such as pixellation I know an upscaler can't correct this)
Will play the audio on BD discs through my TV's built in speakers - does not require an A/V reciever or external speakers
Has good video and audio quality (I'm not a hardcore video/audiophile, but I want something that looks and sounds good)
Will let me upgrade the firmware without connecting the player to the internet, by downloading a file onto my computer, copying it to a USB stick and then inserting it in a USB port on the player (I don't mind if I have to do a bit of fiddling around with the remote as well to install the firmware, though I don't want to have to constantly type in codes to use the player), I do not want to upgrade via burned CD
What I don't want (so don't derail the thread trying to convince me of their merits, I have my own reasons for my decisions, and am well aware of the advantages of the equipment/features I'm not bothering with):
BD Live, other features that require that I connect the player to the internet
An A/V reciever, external speakers
Multi-region playback - I already have a Region B Blu-ray player that is all-region for DVDs and upscales them, so I don't need multi-region playback on the Region A player, and I don't want a multi-region player for BD until one is made available that is legally, officially multi-region, I have no moral/ethical objections to the modding of players and I consider region-encoding to be in violation of free trade rules, but I've heard you can get in trouble for modding a player and I don't want my blu-ray player disabled, so I'd rather go with a legal option (not to mention that official options are probably more reliable).
EDIT: Also, I haven't got a huge amount of money, I was hoping for £200 or less including postage and other added charges such as VAT, customs, etc., though I'm willing to go higher to an extent if that's what I have to do.
