You omitted to mention that you are the publisher. Please do not use these discussion forums to promote a book in which you have an interest. It is both unwelcome and against Amazon rules. From the "Important Announcement from Amazon":

"Starting on December 15, 2011, all "shameless self-promotion" activity will be limited to the `Meet Our Authors' community."

Put your spam in the "Meet Our Authors" forum. That's what it's for.

That isn't the point.

Firstly, whether you're making money or not doesn't matter. You are not making an objective disinterested recommendation, because you are involved with the production of the book. People are entitled to assume that you are heavily biased. Moreover, you didn't actually state your involvement, which is, to put it politely, dishonest.

Secondly, this is a discussion forum, not an advertising channel. People who use it for its intended purpose are fed up to the back teeth with spammers crawling all over it attempting to publicise their stuff. That includes, by the way, a good many who are self-published authors themselves. The only thing you will achieve by posting here is to ensure that as a matter of principle none of those people will buy the book. Nobody rewards bad behaviour.

Completely agree on all points Tom, and I know I am not the only one.

OK, I apologise. I didn't realise this was the case - genuinely. I am publishing the book for a friend - it's my first publishing experience of a book I haven't written myself - and have no financial interest in it. I was not intending to be dishonest or to disguise the fact that I am involved in the publication of the book. My plan was to wait for replies from interested people then offer a few free copies of the book to people in exchange for HONEST and REAL reviews.

I didn't know this was not the correct place to do this. I wasn't thinking it was an advertising channel but as a way to contact people interested in reading who might want to be involved in a mutual exchange. I know you can do this on some discussion sites and I really wasn't aware that this would be seen as offensive here.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction (or rather averting me from the wrong direction) although a little harshly. I appreciate the history and how much spam you must have tolerated that has driven you to your harsh reply and I, again, apologise for getting it wrong.
