Norman Wisdom far funnier than benny Hill.....but strange no one seems to have mentioned Morecombe and Wise....which at the time was i believe more popular than anyone....and I still find them funny today.

Hi all, I like both Benny Hill's comedy and him as a person and also Monty Python who are geniuses - as was Benny.

As a child, after seeing every sketch on tv after my mother would say; 'go and watch the telly and behave!', I'm so glad she did that as even nowadays at the age of 46, I still laugh out loud in hysteria at the sketches of MP and BH AND I watch the repeats too with much delight.

To quote much-loved sayings from my favourite Monty Python scenes....(I can't resist sorry):

'We are the Knights who say - Ni!' Oh and 'Shrubbery!' and....'Nobody expected the Spanish Inquisition!' (am laughing like a drain here typing this)...

As for Benny Hill, I bought his Ernie song a long long time ago on a 45 single disc, if you go to youtube you can still hear it ahhh, and there's lyrics on the screen so if you're like me you'll sing along to it *smirks* :-) (and the Monty Python clips are there too - a LOT of them, ooh fabulous!)

Brilliant!

Have a good day everyone, i'm off to youtube while i'm waiting for my chicken to cook in the oven so I have an hour or so to enjoy some laughs on there hehe...

Some of my favourite characters from Monty Python are;...Mrs Overall as she is hilarious and the Gas Man scenes (where a line of Gasmen are lined-up in the street) oh and 'My Hovercraft ees full of eels!' (The Tobacconist's Shop sketch) lmao...

Some of my favourite characters that Benny Hill played are;... The Chinaman in interviews, Fanny Craddock (with Bob Todd lurking in the background drunk as a fart LOL) and Benny being chased by luscious ladies with that tune playing (I want that played at my funeral or the Monty Python theme tune. And whenever Benny was smacking that bald guy (Jack) on the head, it always makes me laugh. The facial expressions that Benny had cracked me up too - yes I can do the same face while my friends roll their eyes in a sarcastic manner.

If I could choose between Monty Python or Benny Hill as to who is/was the funniest, I would have to say that I couldn't decide to be honest as they are all wonderful. As will be my chicken dinner, so i'm off to poke the chicken now, my cat is going nuts clawing at me as she can smell it (she's already been fed by the way!)

Anyways lol, sorry to witter on, i'm a left-handed Sagittarian, likeminded folk will sympathise and understand totally lol.

Have a nice evening everyone!

Am currently viewing and laughing at - the killer rabbit scene in the MP Holy Grail film clip...pmsl...

Morcambe and Wise were hilarious too! I love the Shirley Bassey sketch where she's wearing boots as Eric and Ernie are crouching on the floor changing her shoes and attempting to put boots on her, so funny. And the breakfast sketch to the Stripper song is priceless! :-D

x

Maybe, but what it really needs is a bit more promotion on Amazon forums.

I'm quite intrigued by this - not by Benny Hill or the book, but the fact that it's the one thing on these forums that just won't go away. If it's purely spam, Man of truth is going beyond the call of duty (I'd have thought). If it's just an honest fan's recommendation, he deserves some kind of a medal for commitment.

It won't go away because M o T keeps bumping the relevant threads. I think Mr O'Truth is a genuine fan, but with a degree of devotion that definitely goes beyond the call of duty!

Great comic Benny Hill. Hilarious. As was Stanley Baxter (and 'The Pong of the Tyne')! Memorably funny, whereas Monty Python are memorable but not for being funny. Shirley Bassey and the boot sketch is the only thing I've ever found all that funny about Morecambe and Wise.

Benny Hill was also very good in 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'.
