Baby Bjorn Miracle Carrier

Hello everybody! I am a mother of a 8.5 kg 6 month old baby and I am considering tobuy the Baby Bjorn Miracle Carrier but I am still undecided. Does anyone who has that product could give me a real description of how it works. I would like to know for how long I could bear the baby's weight without feeling tired. I also would like to know if it is true that it distributes the weight in such a way that you feel it much less than with other cheaper brands.

We have a baby bjorn carrier which I have used with both my babies. They are fantastic; in my opinion the best on the market and I tried a lot! However in my opinion, however good the product, carrying a rather heavy infant on your front very quickly becomes unmanageable (around an hour). They are fantastic for a quick trip to the shops when you don't want to take a pram or in a crowded market place, but as soon as my kids could sit for a reasonable rate of time we switched them to a Vaude backpack which I could comfortably wear for a couple of hours at a time.

While some people are very happy with the Baby Björn carriers, they really are not the best -- they just do the best marketing! As trish said, it can be very hard on your back to carry a heavy child (and your child is bordering on the weight limit from a comfort standpoint...I know very few people who've successfully used a BB after about 6-8 months), and the BB is very expensive for something that doesn't allow you to do back carries and doesn't last past 6-8 months. There is also a lot of controversy about whether they are even good for a child, since the baby hangs rather than sits. Have a look at soft structured carriers - like an Ergo, a Beco, etc. (not sure they are available on Amazon, but they are much better). I regularly wear my 2,5 and 4 year olds on my back in these carriers, and started wearing them from birth, so they are very flexible, sturdy, and comfortable. I can comfortably wear a 2,5 year old for several hours on my back in my Ergo.

I haven't used any of the other BabyBjorn carriers, but I bought the Miracle and I'm currently using it with my 7.5 kg 6 month old boy quite easily for an hour or so at a time, during short walks, shopping, in airports and so on. The difference between the Miracle and other structured carriers is that there is an adjustable system on the back allowing you to move the baby carrying unit up or down distributing the weight more between the shoulders or hips. It works on a pair of zip-like sliders which are very easy to move but are on the back. The adjustment is not a complete on/off and you can't really change it while wearing the baby unless someone can do it for you, but I found it very good - depending if my arms or lower back is sore on a given day or if I want my boy closer to my face or lower on my front I can change the position before putting the baby in.

However, as the Miracle is expensive and your baby is already quite heavy, you might be better off buying a carrier which allows for the back position (either a soft one or a backpack-style one later on) if you want to get more use out of it.

I found the Bjorn baby carrier to be robust and very well-made, and although it was complicated to put on the 1st few times, we got the hang of it pretty quickly. HOWEVER, I would agree with others that the weight of a baby on your front does get very wearing pretty quickly. The BB range are expensive, but we got half the cost back selling it on ebay afterwards, and if I'd had more sense, I would have bought one 2nd hand, as you'd be hard-pressed to wear out the carrier before you wear out your back!

Yes, we have the Baby Bjorn Miracle and I can highly recommend. There are cheaper carriers but in my opinion this is worth th e money if you're going to use this often or for lengthy walks as it's so comfortable.
