My little boy will be one on June 2nd and we've just sent out a wish list to relatives that have been asking... we asked for contributions towards zoo membership, water babies classes, forest school classes, a slide, a swing, a bird table (he loves to point at the birds in the garden through the window),a water/sand play table from toys are us (then only hands and face get dirty so good for a quick play if you don't want to change their clothes completely every time)! I would also recommend a foldable play tunnel as they are great fun to crawl through - we got one second hand for a fiver. Also fun are the inflatable 'ball parks' that are like bouncy castles filled with balls (fun for grown ups to play with little ones in here too)! They are quite cheat at the moment at places like argos and asda. Hope this is helpful!!

If you have a wriggling little one, do take a look at Zippy Suits, the baby sleepsuits that have a zip instead of poppers to make baby changing much quicker and easier for everyone! www. zippysuit.com

Happy Birthday!

I wouldn't buy her anything at all - she has NO idea it's her birthday and couldn't care less. Wait until you find something you really like/she really likes and get it then! Books and clothes are always useful from relatives/friends...

A Play tent and tunnel are quite good for kids that age.

A Smart Trike is an excellent idea as they last from 9 months to 4 years. My nephew had one for his 1st birthday - he is 3 now and still uses it every day.

A baby walker....either the wooden one with coloured bricks and a balanced handle....or the V Tech plastic one with buttons to press, making different sounds.

I am maybe off the beaten track with this idea.... as my granddaughter has been receiving toys / clothes / and all other bits and pieces suited for her age and based on her needs at a particular time , I decided with '' LANDMARK'' occasions , to buy her a piece of jewellery to grow up to and which represent a very special time in her life.

I bought a single string of pearls for her on the day she was born... her birth stone is Pearl.... and for her 1st birthday , I bought a gold neclet which has 3 gold bars, offset , with each bar studded with a diamond. the 3 bars represent her Mum and her Dad and herself as do the diamonds . My daughter was delightedto be able to put these gifts to one side until the baby is old enough..... and be able to tell her the story behind the gift. Hope this helps as I'm sure that few other people may have thought outside the box

I have to agree with you, Shain. They have no idea what's going on at that age, have so many toys and have things bought for them all the time.
But it's nice to mark the special day so I opened a savings account for my grandson's first birthday. When he's old enough to use it, I think he'll appreciate his first birthday present!

ZIPPY SUITS - Great idea, I have recently purchased two for my Great Nephew who will be one on 8th September. They arrived yesterday and are of a beautiful quality. Feel so luxurious, I got him one in a pale mint green which is a lovely colour and the other in blue. They come with matching bib also. Hope his mum likes them. I am sure she will.

At a year old, they don't know what is going on. I know as a parent you want to make their first party special. But it's only really for the parents satisfaction. I spend around £500 and then thought how stupid I was for spending so much on a day that I know would be special but no need for it all. Anyway, we ended up just having a pinic with 6 other babies and their mommies and daddies. It was a lovely day. I was going to put his baby pool up but I was so flustered on the day I totally forgot but it wasn't needed cos they had fun playing with all the toys. It was a good day...one thing is REMEMBER TO BUY BATTERIES FOR YOUR CAMERA!! I WAS FOREVER HAVING TO CHANGE THE 2 BATTERIES I HAD AROUND AS MY CAMERA KEPT SAYING..."CHANGE THE BATTERIES" :) XX Have fun!

We have been tight as have come to the conclusion that our daughter will get loads of gifts from family and doesn't actually need or want anything. She's having an extended use rear facing car seat.

I think that's a fantastic gift and will be buying one for my son as soon as he outgrows his infant car seat. Nothing says "I love you" more than wanting to keep your child safe.

Although her birthday has past there is a keepsake you can still get for her. A day you were born certificate. There are some amazing ones on here that let you upload a couple of photos and there are a lot of designs to choose from. Just search the day you were born and you should find it :)

The Baby Special Date Print is just that and then something more. You can order a personalised print with your babies full name, birth date, weight, height and a brief message if you like - AND what's more, you can even personalise the cute caricature to resemble your babies features: gender/ethnicity/hair type and colour and eye colour... A perfect celebration of your babies birth/christening or even first ChristmasPersonalised Baby Gift - Special Date Celebration Print (Pink)
