If you are only going to see one of these two movies next year, which one will it be?
For me it's definately The Avengers.

For me Personally The Dark Knight Rises, although i will see The Avengers, but Christopher Nolan will no doubt again work his magic and come out with an outstanding film, with a more gritty and grounded take on the superhero genre, wheras with The Avengers there are simply too many characters and that will likely be its downfall in my humble opinion anyway, you have Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, Black Widow, Loki, If i have forgotten any please forgive me, the film istelf would need to be at least 3 hours long so thats all the characters get the right amount of screentime and the set up of the film, this is why i think it will fail. As for The Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolan just has a way of making his characters instantly likeable and unforgettable, and they all really seem to meld well together and his stories really seem to get more impressive each time, so for me it will be The Dark Knight Rises

Whether Nolan will work his magic or not we will see, you cannot be certain of something that hasn't happened yet. But I am more interested in The Avengers, I will watch any movie with Thor in, he is just an amazing Marvel creation!

Based very heavily on Norse mythology....

Personally I'm more looking forward to Dark Knight Rising. I don't like how Captain America, Thor et al were just used as extended trailers for The Avengers. They had absolutely nothing going for them at all, in fact the only good one out of the individual Avengers films was the original Iron Man in my opinion.

I know almost nothing about The Avengers film (when I first read the topic title I thought it was regarding a remake of the '60s TV show!) and I like Nolan's Batman films although I'm not the biggest fan, but I have just seen that The Avengers is written and directed by Joss Whedon which instantly makes it a lot more interesting IMO. I love Serenity and Firefly, and I've always wondered how well he would direct with a massive budget and top-flight special effects. Very interested in The Avengers now.

The Avengers has too many things that can go/will fail. I'll definitely go see it, but i'm looking forward to Dark Knight Rises alot more.

Thor was great though, thoroughly enjoyed that film!!

Dark Knight easy

Avengers is like the super hero rejects club !! ......

That's not really true though... in the '70s The Avengers had pretty much every major Marvel character in it. Even the film's gonna have Hulk, Iron Man and Samuel L. Motherf**king Jackson in it, which is a pretty cool line-up. It's just that as individual characters Batman's better than all of them, and the next Batman film's springing off the success of two hugely acclaimed predecessors, which from a filmic perspective gives him something of an advantage.

"Even the film's gonna have Hulk, Iron Man and Samuel L. Motherf**king Jackson in it"

I like the way you say that like Samuel L Jackson is a superhero in his own right.

Trigger says:
Samuel L. Jackson's more of a badass (and I usually dislike that term, but in his case it really does apply) than a thousand comic book superheroes.

Except maybe Rorschach.

Rorschach v Samuel L. Jackson
Now that's a film i'd like to see!!!
Wouldn't last long though, Rorschach would just flay him!!

I'm actually looking forward to the 'Amazing Spider-Man' the most. If they can get the 3D web slinging right, I think it could be epic. Plus i'm most excited about the villain in it, The Lizard.
Next i'd place The Dark Knight Rises followed by The Avengers.

Spin says:
The Avengers is a kiddie film, a tie-in, an extension of a storyline intended to widen the possibilities, a mode of operating that both Marvel comics and films excel in. Batman is a single story. An adult "hero" (not a superhero, but a vigillante bordering on madness). Dark Knight will be THE film to see. Avengers is just saturday entertainment.

i'm more excited for TDKR but will see them both

I'll watch both, but the Dark Knight Rises will be the one I can't wait for - loved Dark Knight, shame Heath Ledger won't be in this one :(

Heath Ledger as Joker: Genius. He stole the show. Theres no justice is there? Dummies and people famous for being famous live on while artists die. Heath. RIP.

With all due respect, but Dark Knight is way too overrated. It seems to me that The Avengers is the underdog in this contest, but who knows, sometimes the underdog gets the last laugh.

Probably is overrated, but that's because it's rated so high. It's a damn good film and the Avengers prequels have been downright crap. With all due respect.

i dunno Rab Iron Man 1 was very good and I enjoyed the Incredible Hulk movie too, but Ed Norton is not in this Avengers movie is he ?

The Drak Knight is a fantastic film i dont care how high people rate it, there is good reason the film is brilliant, def up there with Superman 2 imo . Mind you I think u actually like Batman Begins even more

I agree Bauer I loved Iron Man 1 but the rest of them have been rubbish. Granted I've not seen Ed Norton's Hulk though. Eric Bana's wasn't great though.

In reply to an earlier post on 7 Dec 2011 11:10:38 GMT
its good mate, much better than that god afwul Ang Lee/ bana one

Posted on 7 Dec 2011 12:09:37 GMT
Batman for me I just enjoy the style of the last two, the batwing looks as cool and as mental as the bat mobile. Not sure about bane though but we will see, but I do like Tom hardy as an actor. I think the way certain elements of the story are weaved in and how the characters are introduced is a nice way of telling the story.
I will still watch the avengers as it could be really good, it could be better then Batman I don't know til I watch them. But I will be planning to go to the cinema for Batman, but will wait for avengers on DVD.

Spin says:
RAB: I agree. But Marvel is a franchise that caters for kids. The DC Batman series of films and graphic novels tends to be more adult in tone, plot and intent.
