Ok so its raining cats and dogs and with crap on tv have decided to put on KELLY'S HEROES

To me the real star is the supporting actor TELLY SAVALAS who just blows all off screen with every scene he's in even Eatstwood who just seems to squint alot!
Reflecting on this theme another i was thinking was Shaw as Quint in JAWS

What others can you guys think off?

I would say Richard Keil who plays Jaws in the Bond films completely outshines Roger Moore - even tho Moore is playing bond

It's not well known but there's a low budget sci-fi actioner from about 1996 called Space Marines which is exactly the chunk headed pile of idiocy you expect, except for the wonderfully eccentric villainous turn by John Pyper-Ferguson. So strong is his performance that it's actually reason enough to watch the film in itself.

A particular highlight is him rehearsing his victorious speech for the end of the movie on a portable tape player.

B. Allen says:
Leo DiCaprio in 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape' - the first time he amazed me
Heath Ledger in 'Dark Knight' - what a performance - utterly mesmorising
Liam Neeson in 'Batman Begins' - I was so rooting for him
Johnny Depp in 'Benny & Joon' - beautifully understated bit of acting
Paul Bettany in 'Master and Commander' - well, for me at least ;)

Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, William Sadler as Death steals every scene he's in

The obvious one is Girl Interupted , Winona Ryder played Susanna ; this was a role that was designed for her to get her acting crededtials , it followed all of the cliches for an oscar not.
i.e. Big Star , disturbed and complex character overcomming adversity.

However , Winona was over shadowed by two other actors Anglina Jolie ( playing Lisa the sociopath ), and Britianny Murphy ( playing the sexually abused Daisy).

Sam Worthington in Terminator Salvation: though I'm a fan of Christian Bale, Worthington really stole the show from him
Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight: Again with Bale, Ledger was outstanding and desvered that Oscar award.
Stephen Dorff in Blade: Wesley Snipes rocked as Blade but Dorff was sexy and was brilliant as Deacon Frost
Ioan Gruffudd in King Arthur: So Clive Owen's movie but Gruffudd outshone him with his powerful protrayl as Lancelot

David says:
Alan Rickman in Die Hard - he had all the best lines and stole every scene he was in. He did the same in Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves as the Sherriff Of Nottingham. Barry Foster in Hitchcocks Frenzy - one of his best performances as the neck tie strangler. Donald Plesence as Blofeld in You Only Live Twice put Sean Connery (who gave one of his worst performances as Bond) to shame.

that is a great list and they are all spot on!!! does anyone else think sean connery in "the untouchables?" Kevin Costner couldnt cope with his prescence, and then in "Robin Hood Prince of Thieves" he outshines him at the end!!!

One case where the director himself realized the same thing: Peter Sellers in the original "The Pink Panther." People tend to forget that in the original, David Niven played the lead, and Sellers' Inspector Clouseau was just a supporting character.
