Stupidiest TV Shows On Right Now

Numbers for me is the stupidiest show on TV, I know I´m in the minority here, I brought the 1st season on DVD as it sounded great, using maths to solve crimes, I thought they would explain how maths is used except we only see a huge Good Will Hunting style maths equation, which for me is just a mumble jumble of numbers and we are told that this equation was used to solve the crime, or we hear something like "using this complex algo rythm i was able to..."

I remember with one episode, after a few bank robberies, spanning a couple of months, the maths genius is able to make an equation to predict exactly when and exactly where these robbers will strike next, I´m no math genius but this is impossible to predict, ok, so if over the space of 2 months I eat out at different restaurants 5 or 6 times, using a maths equation then, he would be able to tell me when and where I will eat out next, impossible, there are too many variables, I might not feel like Chinese tonight, it might be raining, I might be sick, Numbers might be on telly so I decide to stay home last minute.

Another doozy was the episode when someone committed suicide by jumping off a bridge, the maths genius comes along and starts sprouting that he didn´t jump he was pushed, as if he stepped off the bridge himself, he would have landed here, he landed 30 cm away from where should have landed so he was pushed, once again there are too many variables, maybe there was a gust of wind, maybe he stepped off, maybe he jumped off, maybe he ran and leaped off, its just cringe worthy, do they take us for idiots?.

I disliked all the characters, especially the maths profesor, who always looks like he´s constipated pondering lifes greatest mysteries, the lead character is so un convincing as a FBI special agent, I could go on and on.

If I catch an episode now on TV, I watch just to laugh at how bad I think it is, like being in the catagory its so bad its good.

Other worthy mentions, Sex And The City, a show about 3 women and their horse, I also couldn´t get into 6 Ft Under.

Saw about twenty minutes of The Only Way is Essex last night, clearly a scripted program despite what the show claims. I don't know if it's the stupidest show on tv but it's 'characters' are certainly the stupidest.

As above, any f'ing reality. It's killing TV. It costs basically f all to stick a bunch of idiots in a house and film them. Consequently networks don't seem to be willing to take a chance on any new ideas anymore. Plus every non celebrity has their own show now. Even Jodie Marsh ffs.

Ridiculously OTT "quiz" shows like "The Vault", "The Million Pound Drop" etc., always with dreadful comperes and banal attempts to rank up tension. No better are pathetic "teatime" contests like "Golden Balls" and "Deal Or No Deal", all grossly inflated variations of Bingo. (Noel Edmonds on "Deal Or No Deal" must take the prize for talking absolute piffle non-stop day after day - one almost yearns for Mister Blobby to come back!)

Never say that Sou'! Like you should never say his name three times into a mirror. I agree about OTT Quizes though. That ranking up tension is like in Who wants to be a Millionaire and it's a cheap attempt to kill as much time as possible. If a quiz only gets through ten questions in an hour they're just waisting everybody's time IMO.

My wife likes this :(. But if you listen carefully the show never claims it's real, it claims the people in it are real, as opposed to all the other shows that use manequins as the stars. It's advertising talk to say something that means one thing but sounds like it means something else, like Helmans mayonaise advert that's claim to fame is they use real ingredients, clearly all other brands are using imaginary ones.

That's one of the giveaways that it's scripted, no-one that stupid could get to be that old without some form of full time carer to stop them chewing on electric cables.

"Sex And The City"

A show who's main story for however many god awful series it ran for follows 3 women who spend their entire lives biatching about being single and are only able to validate their own exsistence by having a boyfriend who then get boyfriends and spend every waking moment picking fault with them and trying to rattionalise that all men are useless to avoid facing up to the fact that no sane individual would ever go near them. All that to a background of getting their gran laid.

Any soap opera.

24, prison break, haven, various other dramas.

I think 24 is overated and annoying.

Agree with the others about the reality tv, soaps, quiz shows and pretty much most telly.

Homeland: incredibly overated, silly, boring and it's a wannabe Manchurian Candidate (1962).

This is slightly OT but I think the American's being the main offenders of this, and that's not knowing when to end a series. For me a good series is ruined by dragging on. Lost, Heroes, Scrubs, being examples.

All the crap reality shows with the sad wannabees....nothing more to be said.

I nominate most quiz shows and all reality TV, talent shows and soap operas (in the strict sense, shows that are about relationships/a bit melodramatic/goofy that have actual seasons and take breaks are not what I'm talking about here). I also nominate most live action children's television, it's amazing how bad most of it is (though it's not like I didn't like lots of shows I'd hate now when I was that age), with the only exceptions I can think of being Eerie Indiana, The Adventures of Pete and Pete, Press Gang, The Sarah Jane Adventures.

No, it's a show about 4 women. The fact that you (poster of first quote) think one of them is unattractive does not make her subhuman. I'm not a huge fan of it, I have a few issues with it, like the way they trivialised medically unnecessary male infant circumcision, and I wouldn't buy it on DVD, but I've seen far worse TV than that. And enough with the Samantha old jokes (poster of second quote), I mean, I'm in my 20s and I think she's hot, and regardless of whether anyone in this thread finds her attractive or not, why should she not have sex because she's middle aged? "Old people doing it is gross" doesn't cut it as an argument, I'm almost tempted to tell you to grow up, but there are plenty of people who are younger than you who are less ignorant than you (doesn't matter how old you actually are, it's still true).

Ugly Betty - Do I sense a theme in this thread of hating on girl shows for having cooties (maybe next someone can jump in and say Buffy the Vampire Slayer is rubbish because she has a silly name, to complete the effect)? Top Gear glamourises materialism, and Ugly Betty is more about the characters than the clothes. Plus, how often do you get a latina lead on an English language show?

If you slapped a kid senseless, hopefully you'd be arrested. I haven't seen the show, but that's irrelevant to the point I'm making.

I have mixed feelings about these shows, I agree that Scrubs was dragged out (though I still like it).

loved 6 feet under, some series of 24, homeland is ok, towie haven't even bothered watching, love game of thrones, loved it originally but now completely stupid having friends rerun over rerun etc etc

Sakura as the self appointed moderator of this thread could you also slap the OP's wrist for the title 'Stupidiest' is not a word nor is stupidest, the comparative form is MOST stupid. That's what comes from watching too many dumb American shows.

Agree that there's no such word as "stupidiest" but that's probably a typo (and once a thread title is typed it seems impossible to alter it). As for using stupidest as a superlative adjective; it can be a bee in the bonnet for some purists but I think most people (along with many dictionaries) find it quite acceptable nowadays. I think the comment about watching dumb American shows was a tad patronising (English programmes can be just as guilty of mangling our language!)

Sou'Wester, the 'dumb American shows' was tongue-in-cheek hence the emoticon wink. Having said that, do you remember Apple's advert for 'the funnest ipod yet'? and the word 'awesomest' is creeping into our language usually as 'the most awesomest (film/band) ever'.
@ Roger, the difference was that we laughed at Baldrick's misuse, we didn't suddenly include it in our every day language. Of course somethings do stick around for a while like 'simples' the funnest, most awesomest piece of advertising ever, not. That 'not' thing became really tiresome, very quickly too.
As for Stupidiest being a typo, bet you it wasn't.

Must admit that awesome itself has become one of the most over-used adjectives around - with luck it's a passing fad - though it may go the same way as fantastic, which has long since lost its proper meaning and become a general - and much over-used - adjective to describe anything regarded as "great". (Hearing the word "fantastic" used in practically every other sentence is something that sets my teeth on edge in front of the telly; Kate Humble and Alexander Armstrong are particularly guilty in this respect).

Yes, I agree with you on fantastic, that protracted faaaantastic is annoying too. The overuse of the word 'random' by everyone under the age of thirty get's to me as well.
As in: 'I was drinking with some random strangers'. Why protract a sentence?
I must admit I quite like the 'new' word 'happenstance' that is gaining in popularity, meaning: 'happened by chance; serendipitous; almost by magic'. I shall probably end up hating it because of the inevitable lazy overuse that will follow!

Can't stand these daft reality shows myself e.g. the Chelsea and Essex rot, what's the point of scripting a "reality"show? It just becomes a soap with excrutiatingly bad acting, worse even than the genuine soaps. I've only ever seen the ads for Chelsea, but that plump faced bloke in the tweed jacket who every week claims that he could get the blonde haired bloke's girl, just like that (click of his fingers), I could just kick him up his .... The blokes are cattier than the girls. Then there's the Big Brother rubbish - way past its sell buy date and Celebrity BB, with 'celebs' no-one has ever heard of. It's just cheap TV.

I have to agree re. Numbers, disagree re. Homeland which I've enjoyed.

'Friends' was always the worst, direly unfunny and pointless. Perfect example of how to do laugh-free insipid drudge with canned laughter and spin it way past it's unatural lifespan (of about 2 minutes I'd say) to clearly very unfussy, very lazy audience.
'Sex And The City' is barely better, though I agree with Sakura regarding Samantha's sex scenes, it's probably the only thing that keeps the show afloat. Samantha (therefore Kim Cattrall) is smoking hot, remains so, in lieu of the plastic slave-to-surgery land she lives in and looks way better than women half her age, especially Angelina Jolie who gets unsexier by the year. 'SATC's probably is how it, like many US shows, demonises, ridicules men, yet at the same time insists the waxed ken-doll, perma-pumped vacuous male bimbos are what all men should aspire to be to be worthy of women! A bit rich, if typically hand-in-hand with the ongoing female stick-insect or big-boobed/surgery fetish the US insists on.

Pretty much all reality shows e.g 'Chelsea', 'Essex' and whatever else follows.
Other US 'Friends' replacements like 'How I Met Your Mother' & 'Big Bang Theory'.
'Inbetweeners' dreadfuly overrated.
'Suits' isn't all that, but I wouldn't call it rubbish, but absurdly overrated.
'Lost'-especially when it became...er totally like lost...
'Vampire Diaries' and 'Smallville' or 'Small-ville'-like the "actor" trying to be a young superman.
Unnecessary remakes of past US shows that were teen fare but far better originally so the "new" 'Beverly Hills 90210'.
'Glee' just disgusting and anything that keeps on celebrating the complete vacousness of trashy US music over the far better musical output from everywhere else on the globe is criminal to say the least, especially when it's another thing that has to concern and deify Madonna the awful!!
