Mr. C. Hyder says:
Ian McKellan as Gandalf - simply could not imagine anyone else in that part
Jackie Earl Haley - Rorschach - absolutely nailed the character's demeanour and uncompromising attitude
Al Pacino (in a less obvious choice than Tony Montana - amazing of course) but I thought he gave a brilliant and understated performance in Carlito's Way
On a lighter note I thought Geoffrey Rush was hilarious as Barbosa and easily held his own against the superb Johnny Depp in the Pirates movies, like em or not.
Geoffrey Rush again and Pierce Brosnan in The Tailor of Panama, superb characterisation as usual from Rush and a very unexpected and successful comedic turn from Brosnan, all the more surprising as he was still Bond at the time Panama was made and the role pretty much turned 007 on his head and gave him a very sleazy twist.

Billy Casper says:
David Thewlis as Johnny in Mike Leigh's Naked - the anti-hero to end them all.
Jack Nicholson in his early 70s golden period - The Last Detail, Five Easy Pieces and Cuckoo's Nest - spiteful, complex, intelligent, uncompromising - the definition of the self-destructive male which came to define the mood of 70s America.
Lamberto Maggiorani in The Bicycle Thieves - a complete and naturalistic embodiment of dignity and loss, made even more amazing by the fact that he was a non-professional actor who went back to working in a factory after the movie's release.

pretty much all the actors in back to the future, al pacino as the devil in devil's advocate, heath ledger as the joker, tom selleck as magnum, harrison ford as Indy/solo, robert downey jnr as tony stark, and avery brooks as sisko were all great as those parts. and not quite the same thing, but the voices for butters and tweek in south park are genius!
