Watched the official trailer to the latest Godzilla adaptation, it looks really good and a hell of a lot more thrilling than Emerich's loose 98 adaptation.

It's got a pretty top notch cast including Kick ass's Aaron taylor-johnson, elisabeth (sister of the olsen twins) olsen, Breaking bad's Bryan cranson & Juliet binoche. The only rea cast highlight in the 98 film was Jean reno.

Garath edwards who made Monsters is in the director's chair, so i am pretty confident he has made something exciting yet realistic.

The only thing i am not too sure on, are the writers but i'm confident they have a story that is respectful of the 54 original yet bringing something different to it too.

So what is everone else's thoughts?

I'm seriously looking forward to this film. My mate is a huge Godzilla fan and is wetting his pants over this. The trailer looks F&*$ing sweet

Exactly mate and i'm glad they have got decent actors in this version and a better director.

Edwards is saying all the right stuff in interviews about this film. i really liked Monsters. It seems like he's really taking it back to Godzilla's origins thematically and the ending of the trailer with the old-school Godzilla roar is pure class.

I'm really looking forward to this, although anything with big monsters/dinosaurs etc usually gets my hopes up as the monster genre is fairly starved these days. I didn't mind the '98 Godzilla for the sense of scale and destruction they gave to Godzilla but the rest of the film was limper than a moist lettuce injected with the essence of Anne Widecombe in a bathing suit.

Guys do you think Godzilla will have his atomic breath/flame? During the part of the trailer when he let rip his/her roar it looked like the flame was about to be unleashed. Do you think it would be over the top to include it or leave it out. Also during the trailer there was a glimpse of what looked like another monster. Has it been confirmed its not just Godzilla in the film?

G. Hanks says:
Just watched the latest trailer after only seeing the teaser before. It's always hard to tell from trailers but the dialogue snapshots they took seemed to be straight from the book of cliche "God help us all"..... I mean, really?

The CGI all looked far too polished as well, the Statue of Liberty might as well have been chrome plated. Still looking forward to it but now thinking that it's only going to be standard "yay big monster" fare rather than anything of any real note. Still, Pacific Rim was arguably in that boat and I enjoyed that so still looking forward to it. Yay big monster!

Total Film (among others) were shown a 20min preview of the film, they drop a few spoilers which they heavily warn are coming but there's a couple of massive things that they refuse to mention. Given the couple of spoilers they do mention I'm guessing this thing they don't is really really big. So it's certainly possible there's another monster.
I think Godzilla will be this year's Inception.

G hanks

Ye of little faith:) Seriously though mate, you've got have faith, this film is going to be more special than Pacific rim and i think the cast for me will be the catylist for it being f****** awsome;)

Tetro

I am confident you will be right about that, but if it is only half as good as a Nolan film, then that'll be fine by me:)

Heh heh, I admire your positivity Kevin. I am still very much excited by the prospect of Godzilla going on the rampage. He looks bigger than previous Godzillas too and anything with Bryan Cranston in usually gets my vote.

I read an article where they messed up and gave a synopsis

Spoiler

It said that they turned to Godzilla as a last resort to defeat some terrifying new monsters.

Now it's possible it was conjecture on their part. But I don't think so.

I think it's all been designed so we see Godzilla as the threat, but it's going to be Godzilla saving the day?

I think it was Latino I read this but I cant find it. I'll try again

Is this true?

For those who can't go to link or don't want to, here is what it says

The Sci-Fi Action Adventure film is an epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

In an article in this months Empire magazine, they talked to Roland emmerich about Godzilla98. He says at first he didn't wan't make it but wanted to make a meteor disaster film instead but then Toho offered him mega bucks to film a version of Godzilla.

He talked about being told by Toho, how they wanted Godzilla to look but then in typical Hollywood fasion, they ignored Toho and created their own look, suffice it to say they weren't very happy, because they told him, he can keep the new Godzilla, while they keep the old Godzilla.

Anyone here actually seen the original 1954 film? It is excellent. I saw it last week (Criterion did a great job - they put the original AND the "Americanisation", with Raymond Burr, into a pristine package).

I've seen the original, a few years ago now, but the first time I saw Godzilla was the Hanna-Barbara cartoon series. I got into an argument with some guy who raved about how the cartoon Americanised Godzilla, that it didn't show enough respect to the source. I kept laughing. How to get wound up by a children's cartoon. Anyway i remember liking it. I even liked Godzooky. The actual films I watched all out of order, first Godzilla Vs Gigan, then Godzilla Raids Again and then finally the original. Because of that I have a real fondness for Godzilla vs Gigan even though its not considered the best. Also because the awkward backwards route to the original (and also not being Japanese post Hiroshima) I have to admit in not immediately understanding or should I say "feeling" what Toho was doing with the first film.

Godzilla has officially been rated PG-13 by the MPAA. Any thoughts?

In reply to an earlier post on 8 Apr 2014 16:15:36 BDT
As I said I think the Human body count may be lower thann we think, because as I said I think there is clear evidence in the trailer of other creatures and I think Goidzilla is fighting them?

But these days you can get away with much in a PG-13

In reply to an earlier post on 8 Apr 2014 16:27:53 BDT
It does say on IMDB rated PG-13 for creature violence, so yeah as you have said, the human body count being low, has probably been taken into account in their decision.

Godzilla has always been relatively family friendly to my knowledge so the rating makes perfect sense
