Do you watch kids movies?

C'mon, confess folks.
Besides some good animation (first couple Shreks and Wall E) I have seen countless times Problem Child 1/Problem Child 2/Problem Child 3 [DVD], except PC3 stank.
Anything to say?

Yeh I do - I love Disney and Pixar films.
I still like the Pokemon movies.
And I still watch cartoons.

I'm more of an animated kid movie fan than real people movie. Though I do like that film with the baby in New York and the kidnappers - Baby's Big Day Out or something along those lines, and also the Home Alones. Cheesy comedy ftw !!

I am fairly limited as to what modern kids' movies. But I will admit that I do like to reminisce childhood memories and watch TV series and movies I used to watch as a child and teenager.

Here is a list: Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, E.t., Home Alone, Problem Child, Beethoven, Jumanji. Aladdin (Disney), the Lion King (Disney), the Fox and the Hound (Disney), The Jungle Book (Disney), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles (TV and movies), Addams Family (TV, movies and cartoon)... and there is so much more to add.... however... I do enjoy several cartoons... but thats for another post ;)

All the Problem Child movies stank. The little boy's acting was atrocious.

I tend to watch most stuff by Disney/Pixar as they're so well written there's usually something there for the older audience too.

Home Alone is great shout, its not Christmas without them 2 films !

Pixar movies, in fact all Disney and Dreamwork Amination movies !

Depends what you mean by kids films to be honest.

All the films I loved as a kid I still watch now. Goonies, lost boys, back to the future, gremlins, transformers: the movie (1986 cartoon which craps over Michael bays versions), big, masters of the universe lol, princess bride (much better now as an adult watching it, very funny) etc, etc.

I could go on forever with that list. Throw in most pixar and a fair few Disney films and I'd say yeah I watch a lot of films aimed at kids :)

Yeah kids movies i watched a kid, dont really count for me. i would never even think twice about watching Goonies and BTTF etc

No. I don't see kids movies. Apart from The Lion King that is. Have to admit, that is one film I love.

Yes though, Walle, ice age, cars best of all, my daughter is nearly 2 but cant speak, so I actually have an excuse to watch this stuff. My daughter has also developed an unhealthy obsession with south park....

Could go on and on and on - kids films probably make up a third of our collection - and no doubt there's loads that I've forgotten, but they're amongst the 'most watched' of the children's films.

There's some outstanding films there Blastro, and not just "outstanding for a kids film" either. The Incredibles, Ice Age and Shrek are great. Add Monsters Inc in there too.

I've got a few titles from your list regardless my kids are grownups themselves and live far from me. What annoys me sometimes in films (good ones!) like Ice Age, Shrek, or horror spoofs - references to many Hollywood blockbusters, assuming that I have seen ALL of them and able to appreciate them, laughing or smirking in right places. But if I am foreigner and Ice Age is my first American film I'm watching?

RAB - yeah, it does seem that filmmakers been crediting kids with more intelligence over this last 10-15 years, at least compared with when I wuz little. Back then I had to watch stuff like Monty Python, Kenny Everett, Not The 9 O'clock News etc to get my funnies.

Sovs - good point also. If yer not familiar with the Hollywood 'biggies' but try watching some of these flicks, ya may be thinking 'WTF?' for large parts, especially the more 'adult' spoofs like Scary Movie, tho I use the word 'adult' in the loosest terms. Having said that, I got a few laughs from the SM films - I'm a sucker for spoofs - but that's straying from the point a tad...

Scarlet - I'd like to say that they oughta make a feature length STS but can't really see it working. Would be quite happy to sit through several episodes at a time tho.

Well yes I have watched Star Wars.

I also think, and this is mainly Pixar that do this, they try and make a story that's gonna be engaging enough for a kid but also recognising you'll have adults taking them to the cinema to watch it so there's a sort of extra layer to the story that the adult can appreciate.

We watch loads of family films in our house. To be honest I think with many it's a disservice to label them as kids' films - as RAB noted, many if not most of the good ones have layers of content and comedy that appeals directly to a more adult audience. Some favourites include:

Up
Wall-E
Wallace & Gromit episodes & film (there are so many brilliant incidental details in these; especially the film)
Flushed Away
The Incredibles
Shrek 1 & 2 (3 was weak, 4 was not bad but not as memorable as the first two)
Toy Story trilogy (all brilliant, and as I grew up watching them - must have been 12 or 13 when the first was released - it was a very touching end of an era at the close of TS3)
Aladdin (probably my favourite Disney traditional animation)
Kung Fu Panda (I really didn't like this at first as I'm not a fan of Jack Black, but it quickly grew on me. I was worried it might be a bit too violent for my daughter, but she likes it)
Alice in Wonderland (brilliant, but *such* a wierd film)

Um, I'll probably remember loads more. We watched Monsters vs. Aliens for the first time at the weekend and enjoyed that; we also rented Happy Feet which my daughter really likes but I thought was quite poor. When she's a bit older I look forward to introducing the Ghibli films (Totoro to begin with) and then the Harry Potter films when she's about, I dunno, 5 or 6?

I'd say wait a bit for the Harry Potter films, probably only the first one is suitable for a five year-old.

I love Ghibli. Absolutely love them.

Is Spirited Away a Ghibli? Bloody excellent film is that! Have been meaning to get more films of that ilk for quite a while but not got around to it.
