I purchased this book and a few others by the same author for use as a reminiscence aid for a nursing home, every one loves it, staff included, it is full of knowledge and background history of products/shops we all know and love and how they all began, well worth a read you wont put it down.

Appeals to everyone - but particularly to the older generation (like me!) for whom these brands have been around all our lives. Good value when bought second-hand - my copies were all almost as new!

great book 3 Feb. 1999

For my money this is one of the best books of Shakesperean study that I have read. It is even better than John Dover Wilson's "What Happens In Hamlet", yet another classic. A book you must have if you are really into Shakespeare.
Fantastic, Thoughtful Criticism 9 May 2014

I love this study, because it adds something very meaningful to the discussion of these plays by grounding Falstaff in a literary tradition, and in the sensibilities of the time. It was a very enlightening read.
