4.0 out of 5 stars A must read for any would be medical students!, 27 Oct 2004
By nemo p (London) - See all my reviews
If ure looking for something a little more different than the usual glut of books doing the rounds this Christmas, have a peek at this little gem....
Basically, a humourous and light hearted account of a students journey through medical school, recounting 'short stories' aswell as debating a number of more serious and contentious issues faced by the medical establishment today.
Whilst this book might not appeal to everyones tastes, i found this book to be a great read - a funny, informative guide for any 'would be' medical student, providing a fascinating insight to the life and work of a doctor, revealing all the things my other books during medical school conveniently forget to mention!
I particularly liked the authors description of the ward rounds, bringing to life the principal characters, almost reminiscent of a scene from 'Carry on Matron'... this book would be well placed on the reading list of anyone thinking of embarking on a career in the medical profession.

4.0 out of 5 stars Anyone who uses the NHS should read this book!, 17 Jan 2007
By A. Roche (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Thoroughly enjoyable book following the life of medic from training to practising. Although the realistic take on a medic's experience will be useful for prospective med-students, it also provides a useful insight for patients into the decisions a Doctor has to take in order to choose the best treatment. Anyone who uses the NHS should read this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, informative and thoroughly interesting -for anybody!, 3 Dec 2005
A beautifully written book ideal for anybody, not just prospective medical students!! This detailed and honest insight into the medical profession, by a compassionate doctor, is exactly what society needs to understand the medical system. Far too often, people complain and moan about the treatment they receive, majority of which is down to lack of understanding of a system that Doctors seem to have very little control of.

This account keeps the reader engrossed, as I was and the writer manages to engage the reader throughout with his witty and detailed accounts of memorable episodes in his years of studying and in practice.
