"Water Shows the Hidden Heart" is her first book, and explores the story behind the three Loxian songs on the album "Amarantine" - and her development of the new language (Loxian).

This is a book that, unless you're already an enya fan, you're unlikely to come across.
However, I would recommend it without hesitation to any such fans, as it gives an insight into not only
some of the songs on the album 'Amarantine', but also the general process by which Enyas songs are written.

Roma Ryan has an intriguing and unusual writing style, more akin to poetry than prose, indeed I found
this book to have a much greater impact if I read it aloud to myself, as the words, phrases and rhythms
have a subtlety that only emerges when they are heard, not just imagined.

Buried in the middle of this book, and somewhat unexpected, is a heartachingly beautiful
tale of a man's grief after his wife's death.

Towards the end of the book it explains and translates a number of the songs from Enya's album Amarantine,
and also contains poetry which has the feel of songs never set to music.

This book has virtually no dialogue, and far from suffering for that, it changes the feel of the book completely.
instead of the immediacy and impact of a conventional fantasy novel, this has the feel of a religious text,
it feels like you are looking through a window onto a world you cannot fully understand until you have visited it,
and while it is enticing, it is tantalisingly out of reach.

I bought this book simply because I am a fan of Enya's work, but I would happily recommend it
even to those not familiar with Enyas music.
