5.0 out of 5 stars A great voice and a great album, 4 Jan 2004
By Cynthia Selene (Miskolc, Hungary) - See all my reviews
Toni Braxton's unique voice and the talent of Toni and her songwriters gave us an unique album again. The highlights are definitely the hip-hop hit "He Wasn't Man Enough" and the two Diane Warren ballads, "Spanish Guitar" and "I'm Still Breathing" (my favorite track on the album). Other good songs are "The Heat" with a hot summer athmosphere, "The Art of Love", a sensual song with almost no lyrics (written by Toni and her husband), "Maybe" with a little resemblance to Mariah Carey's "Breakdown" and the sad songs "Fairy Tale", "Speaking In Tongues" and "Never Just For A Ring" with pleasant melodies and heartbreaking lyrics. Has some fillers, still "The Heat" is a classic Toni Braxton album and a must have for not only fans but for anyone who loves beautiful ballads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot indeed!, 15 Jan 2003
Excellent album from Braxton. Only drawback is that there isn't more uptempo tracks like 'He wasn't man enough'. She won't make songs like this forever, but for now they'll do just fine. Nevertheles when you have ballads of such high quality as 'I'm still breathing' (My favourite), 'Speaking in tongues', 'Never just for a ring', Spanish guitar(Unbreak my heart Part II)and 'Just be a man about it', you cannot really complain.

5.0 out of 5 stars my only toni album, and i love it!, 9 Dec 2001
By A Customer
i don't have any toni albums but this, so i have nothing to compare with, but what i can say is that i have this c.d for about a year and a half and i still love it, (which is great about c.d's!!! long lasting joy!!!).

most of the album is very chilled, and her voice is very deep and beautiful. the singles are great, but there are many good songs in here, even excellent!

my personal favourits are: he wan't man enough, fairytale (this has been on repeat in my stereo!!!) and many more.

a good, long lasting album with some great tunes. recomended to r'n'b lovers. (but don't expect a "juming" album!)

5.0 out of 5 stars contrary to popular belief, a great album, 22 Oct 2001
By A Customer
i have just read all the reviews of this album and i had to write to give a good argument. this album is excellent and contains a mixture of styles. my personal favourites are fairytale, spanish guitar, and i'm still breathing. i don't think she could've made her comeback any better and her voice is as usual on top form. i suggest to other reviewers to actually listen to what is there, rather than listen to what they thought would be there but isn't. well done toni!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Weak in comparison..., 14 Mar 2001
By A Customer
I LOVE secrets and her first album 'toni braxton' but this just isnt a patch. I TRIED to like it, really i did!! I listened to Secrets so much that i can remember every last note in my head, but 'the heat' just didnt do anything at all. I liked 'he wasnt man enough' and 'spanish guitar' but the rest of the album was completely forgettable and instead of growing on me just got more boring. In fact i sold it a few weeks ago, and i am not missing it one bit. Save yourself some money, and skip this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Her usual self..., 5 Mar 2001
By A Customer
A good album overall but nothing drastically new. Some songs are very similar to many tracks in Secrets. "Spanish Guitar" sounds very much like "Un-break My heart".. but it's still quite beautiful. I'm sure all fans of Toni Braxton will like this album even though it won't bring any surprises.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but could be better!, 30 Sep 2000
I have mixed comments about this album..The songs are great and I listen to them over and over..definitely a good come back in that sense. Spanish Guitar is especially soothing in my opinion..My mum has not returned this album to me..However, I think the quality of her voice is not of satisfactory level. She sounds huskier and often I cannot understand what she is singing.. Still, this, to me is offset by the nice songs.

2.0 out of 5 stars Read this before you buy!, 17 Sep 2000
By A Customer
Ok, there are alot of reviewers who say that this a wonderful album etc. So of course i bought it thinking it may even outshine the fantastic 'secrets'. But man, was i dissapointed. After listen after listen, after listen, i still found this album could you say, sorely poor and weak? Most of the songs lack tune and at times sound compeletely identical. The only songs i liked were 'He wasn't man enough', 'Spanish guitar' and maybe the last one. Absolutely nowhere near as good as her previous efforts. I should've waited for 'Spanish guitar' to be released. I strongly recommend listening before you buy. There are plenty more chart albums out there worthy of your hard-earned cash. Trust me.

2.0 out of 5 stars A bit flat - all the songs merge into one!, 1 Sep 2000
By A Customer
Like most I was motivated to buy this album after hearing Toni Braxton's hit single 'he wasn't man enough',I had never taken notice of Toni Braxton b4 this, howver this album didn't deliver the same quality! The only other track I liked, & would not be ashamed 2 admit 2liking was the 'heat', this is the only other track with an original, upbeat summery sound, but I agree is ruined by the by the misguided 'any 1 want some ice-cream'? Spanish guitar was quite soothing 2 begin with, but soon becomes overtly 'gringy'with the spanish additions and the female backing singers repeatedly singing 'i'll be your song'!. The rest of the album is just so love sick and uninspired, that the rest of the songs remain unremarkable. 'he wasn't man enough' seems 2 be a one off!An album pitched at an older audience!
