General Information
GameCube Online Adapters are purely
designed for gaming--they don't support regular Internet access or Web
browsing. Each adapter is easily installed, simply snapping into serial port 1
on the underside of the console. There are two different adapters available,
depending on your phone connection: the 56 K
Modem Adapter, which
connects to a standard phone line, and the high-speed
Broadband Adapter.
You must use your existing Internet Service Provider (ISP) for online access.
Full instructions on how to set up your console for online play are included
with the adapters.
Please be aware that some service providers, e.g., AOL, do not
allow outside software to access their services without the use of a special
login tool. Please contact your service provider if you're not sure whether or
not they allow this.
The adapters are only intended for use in the following
countries: United Kingdom, Ireland, Austria, Netherlands, Greece, Spain,
Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Belgium, Portugal and Luxembourg.
Modem Adapter (for Standard Phone
Lines) The
Modem Adapter allows
for online connection via ordinary 56 K dial-up services. The adapter connects
to your phone line via a separately sold phone jack adapter and when you load
an online compatible game and select the online option, the Modem Adapter dials
up for online access.

connecting an RJ11-type plug into a standard BT phone

Broadband Adapter The
Broadband Adapter
allows for high-speed connection through a DSL or cable modem. This allows for
faster data transfer, thus reducing the amount of lag time associated with 56 K
dial-up access. The Broadband Adapter can also theoretically be used for
linking two or more GameCube systems together, allowing for network gaming
without the need for online access, although no titles have been announced yet
that will take advantage of this feature.
