Product Description

Product Description

An enzyme that will dramatically prolong life has been discovered two thousand feet down in the North Atlantic, in an area known as "Lost City." But why are the people attempting to harvest it getting killed? Why are the scientists in a remote Greek laboratory disappearing one by one? What does this all have to do with a body found frozen in the ice high up in the Alps? For Kurt Austin, leader of NUMA's Special Assignments Team, and his colleague Joe Zavala, it's clear they have their work cut out for them, but it may be even bigger than they think in fact, it may be their greatest challenge of all .

4.0 out of 5 stars Lose yourself in Lost City, 26 Nov 2004

This book is a must for all Clive Cussler fans,Kurt Austin is in many ways similar to Dirk Pitt and this shows in the plot lines of this book. The scenery that captures the imagination from page one continues all the way through. The characters are easy to relate to and keep you spell bound. The story is set mainly in Scotland, France & in the Atlantic, it twists and turns with every page from deep under the sea to fire fights on remote Scotish islands. The tension mounts with the edition of each character and plot twist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cussler strikes again!, 9 Jun 2005
By A Customer
I have read everything that Clive Cussler has written. None of it is a demanding read, it is holiday fodder but it allows you to switch off and read something entertaining without taxing your brain at all. This new book is no exception, enjoyable & entertaining but a bit formulaic. I still enjoyed it and would certainly recommend it as a good read for a couple of hours.

3.0 out of 5 stars Action Packed World Saving, 2 Aug 2005
By Matt Graubner "blackwolff" (Kentucky, United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Lost City (NUMA Files) (Paperback)
Lost City is another action-packed thriller from Clive Cussler and Paul Kemprecos. As usual expect dashing heroes (Kurt Austin leads the pack), beautiful women (Skye Labelle), and a diabolical plot to take over the world. Standard for a Cussler thriller, ;-).

Of course archaeology is involved as Skye is studing the influence of ancient cultures upon other parts of the world and once she makes dinner plans with Austin he won't let anything get in the way. Whenever they reunite he reminds her of the dinner date and give that as the reason he rescues her.

I also was interested to note that when characters are discussint the submersible Alvin they mention its "real world" descent upon the Titanic shipwreck--ignoring Dirk Pitt's adventure in Raise the Titanic.

This volume definately held my interest as I navigated the twists and turns of the plot, but there was nothing truly exciting. I've read many other Cussler novels, I like them, but he isn't Charles Dickens or Lew Wallace. :-)

Still if you're interested in the ocean and saving the world from disaster then you should check out this NUMA files adventure.

Of notable interest is the volume I read--a new "Premium format" paperback apparently designed for easier reading. The pages are certainly larger (i.e. taller--which makes me wonder how this will fit on my bookshelves with other paperbacks), type is larger, and there is more white space between the words. I read so much that I don't pay attention to details like that, but they certainly didn't make it harder to read.
