The µ [mju:] TOUGH-8000 inherits the versatile 3.6x wide optical zoom which was first seen in the µ TOUGH series’ EISA Award winning µ 1030 SW predecessor model. The lens offers a focal range that starts at just 28mm for fantastic group photos and close-range architectural motifs, extending to 102mm for bringing distant subjects in close.

Dual Image Stabilisation joins the image-enhancing features of the µ [mju:] TOUGH-8000. It ensures that photos impress with their blur-free fidelity even when the shooting environment means some camera shake is inevitable. Besides an intuitive on-screen menu that can be displayed on the 6.9cm/2.7-inch HyperCrystal III LCD in up to 39 languages, the camera features an additional innovative approach to controlling the camera. The TAP Control mode gives users fast access to a range of settings simply by tapping the camera body – which also means adjustments can easily be made even when wearing ski gloves. TAP CONTROL MODE FOR EASY FUNCTION SELECTION This is a unique interface that lets users access a range of camera functions by simply tapping on the camera body. Quick View mode, Scroll Playback Pictures and a user-defined function (Flash or SAT) can all be accessed by tapping at particular points of the camera. HYPERCRYSTAL III LCD FOR ENHANCED BRIGHTNESS A high-grade, fully-transmissive technology used in LCDs, which employs an additional layer at the bottom of the LCD to reflect light from external light sources. This enhances the brightness of the LCD, so even in direct sunlight images are displayed sharply and improved contrast compared to that of conventional displays. Also, it provides for particularly wide viewing angles without glare or shadow, so images can be framed from a variety of angles and viewed by several people at once.

INTELLIGENT AUTO MODE FOR PERFECT PHOTOS This "intelligent" type of AUTO mode uses Face Detection Technology to allow the camera to detect the five most commonly used scenes automatically. It enables the capture of perfect photos without any need for manual settings. MICROSD COMPATIBILITY A special attachment comes bundled with this camera which provides for microSD card compatibility in addition to being able to use xD-Picture Cards. SHADOW ADJUSTMENT TECHNOLOGY FOR IMPROVED EXPOSURES A technology designed to improve exposure for pictures with dark areas. Using a sensor that works much like the human eye, dark parts of a composition (e.g. a shadow under a tree) are identified and the camera then adjusts the exposure settings accordingly for those areas. The result is a more realistic and detailed picture. EQUIPPED WITH AN UNDERWATER SENSOR The Mju TOUGH-8000 is equipped not only with a manometer display that shows altitude, air pressure, and depth, but also a newly designed underwater sensor. With this feature, the camera can detect when it is submerged in water and, thereby, automatically adjusts the brightness of the LCD monitor and displays a warning when a depth of 7m (23 ft) is reached for safer and easier underwater use. The various underwater scene modes with underwater indication priority let you easily enjoy taking pictures underwater. POWERFUL DUAL IS FEATURE MINIMISES BLUR AND MAKES SHOOTING IN EXTREME "TOUGH" CONDITIONS A SNAP Powerful Dual IS feature minimises blur and makes shooting in extreme "tough" conditions a snap Image stabilisation used to be extremely difficult to combine with shockproof performance. However, Olympus succeeded in incorporating a CCD shift image stabilisation mechanism without sacrificing the body size. The result is Dual IS, which reduce blurring caused by camera shake and subject movement and makes it easier to take pictures in extreme "tough" conditions.
