4.0 out of 5 stars Compact camera with useful zoom and wide angle, 18 Aug 2008
By G. E. Harrison (Cheltenham) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
A good-sized compact camera that is small enough to put in a shirt pocket but has large enough controls to manipulate easily. The camera feels solid and the Zeiss lens seems very sharp, with the 2.5 inch screen being of a reasonable size. The 4x zoom is easy to operate and the quick zoom button is also quite useful. The wide-angle (30mm) capability was the feature that most attracted me to this camera and it works well, both for landscapes and for interior photography. With a capacity of 10 megapixels the camera should be able to cope with most projects and this resolution can be reduced for day-to-day snap taking. Menus are fairly intuitive and are quick and easy to negotiate and there appears to be a good selection of useful modes including face detection etc. The camera use SD cards but also has an internal memory so you can carry on taking pictures when the card is full. The instruction book is fairly comprehensive and, if not exactly well written, it can be followed with care and a bit of re-reading.

I bought the camera because I wanted a small camera I could pop in a pocket rather than lugging my digital SLR around, this camera gives me that option and it is the same resolution as my much bulkier SLR! At this price I think it represents a good compromise between a small, basic point and shoot camera and something a bit more sophisticated, and it has useful zoom and wide-angle functions that can still be used without fuss on automatic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of cool functions, very easy to use, 2 Feb 2009
By Ashleigh Manning (Newcastle, UK) - See all my reviews

I have taken some beautiful photographs with this camera. It is so small and light, very easy to take anywhere. It has a very clear menu from which you can choose from various different styles (e.g. the usual beach, snow, sunset, plus some more unusual ones like party, pets and self-portrait- zooms out for you so no more "big-face pictures"). It also has a very intuitive automatic mode, and I don't think I have been disappointed in a single picture.

If you want a nice, easy to use camera which takes consistently clear and bright pictures this could be the one to go for.

5.0 out of 5 stars I feel embarassed admitting this but..., 6 Feb 2009

I feel rather emotionally attached to this camera now. Although there aren't quite the range of manual settings on this camera as I would have liked, you can't possibly expect more in a compact at this price. More importantly, the list of positives goes on and on. Good battery life, good lens, fantastic software (the degree to which it manages to capture excellent images no matter how stupid the lighting/camera shake/flash supressed/etc). Last but not least is overall Panasonic quality - all the new gizmos I've bought over the last 12 months have been Panasonic, and none have let me down. This doesn't either. Highly recommended.
