5.0 out of 5 stars Why spend more?, 31 Jul 2008
By Matthew Bourne "mtb1975" (UK) - See all my reviews

Like a previous reviewer, I bought this to compliment a digital SLR, and first impressions are very good. Build quality is excellent and whilst the camera is very small, the controls are easy to use (I have man-size hands!). Image quality is excellent and if you want more than point and shoot there is white balance, colour and iso control, all of which are quick to access. The LCD is big and clear, if a little slow with movement. Looks more expensive than it is too! 3x zoom is fine for most situations and with 8mp images you can always crop images if you need to get closer. Make sure you get a good sized SD card - images are around 3-4mb each and the videos can soon take up many mb's of space.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good price, good camera, 26 Nov 2008

The Panasonic DMC FS3 is an 8 mega pixels camera with a 3x optical zoom lens. It makes an excellent point and shoot camera that can be slipped into the pocket and taken anywhere. I got mine for taking on holiday and it's been very useful because of its size and the quality of pictures you get.

The Panasonic is very easy to use. This is a simple straightforward digital camera. Menus are bright and clear and all the key controls are at your fingertips.

I was very impressed with the cameras focus under certain situations. One of the main problems with my previous digital camera was it couldn't always give you the best focus. I've tried under many different movement and lighting settings and the Panasonic handles most of them very well, certainly above average for a camera of this price. I also found, when comparing to my old camera, that the Panasonic displayed colours better, even more so in a bright outdoors picture.

The only down side I could find was that the Panasonic seems to struggle when there are dark patches in a picture. If you have an area in shadows you may find the focus a little bit out. However it osn't a huge problem.

For a camera this price I wasn't expecting it to be this good. I'm very impressed that a small pocket camera can do quite so much so well. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Neat digital compact , 20 Jun 2008
By J. C. Williams "JohnWillimas" (Daventry, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this as second camera (my usual one is an Olympus digital SLR). I wanted a compact, slip in the pocket, camera for a holiday rather than humping around my big beast (even though its one of the lighter SLR's around).

First impressions are that the FS3 is well up to the job. Build quality seems great and first results are good. Beware though - the optical zoom is only a 3x, not a 4x as stated in the description above. One handy feature is the "easy zoom" - one button that takes the lens from fully wide to fully zoomed and then to fully digital zoom.
