A convenient One Touch RAW button saves images in their "pure", uncompressed state, so that you can fully manipulate the photograph later without losing clarity.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Samtax" - A very sophisticated "easy camera", 24 April 2009
I recently bought my GX20 in a body-only deal as the price compared to the Pentax K20D version was impossible to ignore. (the GX20 is the K20D's evil twin) and I'm very happy with the results so far. It's a very advanced camera and there's a lot to take in, but I quite like the pictures I've taken in "Green mode" and "Programme shift" mode. I'll pick up the advanced features in good time. The multi-pattern metering works fine - Some reviews say it underexposes slightly but I can't say I've noticed so far, and this can easily be fixed with most photo editors - At least there's no loss of shadow detail. I checked the spot meter function against my old man's pentax analogue spotmeter and it's ,erm, spot on so I'm currently trying to get my head around the "zone" metering system.

This is my first DSLR since I last dabbled in 35mm photography, so being able to use my old autofocus pentax lenses is a distinct bonus: I suppose you could call my bizarre hybrid a Samtax! (sounds better than a Pentung!)

Because of the crop factor from 35mm to APS my old 50mm f1.8 is now equivalent to 75mm on the Samsung sensor, which is perfect for portraits of the family. I bagged a new Pentax "kit" lens off ebay and also a second-hand Pentax 16-45mm F4, which is a cracking lens but no use indoors (because the built in flash casts a shadow on wide angle settings). The inbuilt shake reduction is good insofar as I don't necessarily need to use the built in flashgun when I'm using a fast lens.

The build quality's reassuringly solid - You'd get the impression that the body would still work if you dropped it (or if a thief accidently headbutted it)

2.0 out of 5 stars Samsung GX20, 15 Oct 2008
By P. D. Ainsley (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As a photographer I was asked to test out the above camera for a national photo magazine in May 2008, as oposed to another make of camera I use for my profession.

I found the camera really neat and the 50-200mm lens was so very light. I went out to test the camera with a very small camera bag and found the camera handled really well. The results were equally as good as a camera I use - that is much more expensive. It was easy to handle and the learn the functions. It had built in filters which was good the exposures were very precise.

My only doubt of the camera was the processing time within the camera, as it seemed quite slow in some situations even just on the 'jpeg' setting. Night photography took longer than usual - before being able to take another shot.

The camera itself is neat and I would enjoy taking this on a holiday or for events of any type.
