Sony T200 Buying Guide
Sony Logo
Cyber-shot Logo

The Cyber-shot T200 complements exquisite HD imaging quality with exciting innovations like the new ‘Smile Shutter’ as well as a clear, wide, extra large touchscreen.

Innovative Design with Touchscreen LCD

The slim design DSC200 incorporates a 3 inch touch-sensitive LCD screen for viewing images and has full control over the camera functions. Clear Photo LCD Plus technology ensures superb clarity and colour reproduction, and an anti-reflective AR coating on the LCD screen, maximises contrast and visibility even when shooting outdoors in bright conditions. The screen’s wide 16:9 aspect ratio offers ideal proportions for viewing images on any connected

Like an HD Ready television.
Tapping any point on the screen immediately locks focus on that part of the image, while touching a face on screen turns on Face Detection. During playback, a brief touch anywhere on screen zooms in on that part of the image for quick checking.

Megapixels

Digital photos are made up of dots of coloured light called pixels (picture element). To make a photo requires millions of pixels (Megapixels). The more Megapixels a camera has, the smoother and clearer the photos will be. So, crisp, clear images are assured courtesy of the 8.1 effective Megapixel sensor and Real Imaging Processor.

Double Anti-Blur

Double Anti-Blur

Sony’s Double Anti-blur solution teams Super SteadyShot optical image stabilisation with a maximum sensitivity of ISO 3200. This reduces the chances of spoiled pictures while shooting handheld indoors or at dusk without flash. Sony Clear RAW NR processing reduces colour noise and luminance noise for more natural pictures at high sensitivity settings.

Zoom

Zoooom

The high quality Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens gives a powerful 3x optical zoom – great for pulling distant subjects in closer.

New Smile Shutter function

This enables the camera to automatically react to a smile – a first for digital photography.
This auto shutter system is capable of identifying when someone smiles and will immediately take a shot without you needing to press the shutter - bringing more fun to informal portraits, family shots and other ‘people pictures’. If there are several people in the frame, the shutter only fires when the main subject –
selected using the touchscreen – smiles. A sequence of up to six smiling shots can be taken without needing to manually press the shutter. So you can always have pictures of children or adults looking happy in every shot!

Face Detection Technology

Face Detection Technology

The easy-to-use Face Detection capability helps photographers of all abilities capture great-looking ‘people pictures’ without the risk of spoiled shots. Face Detection automatically adjusts exposure, flash and other settings. Enhanced autofocus performance and advanced eye detection ensure beautifully sharp portraits with natural skin tones – even at high zoom settings, in low light or with moving subjects.
Touching a face on the LCD screen of the camera turns on Face Detection, what could be easier?

Photo TV HD Full HD image display

It’s easy to enjoy the finest quality High Definition images captured with the T200 on a BRAVIA or HD Ready display (HD output adapter cable required) so you can share your images with friends and family. Music can accompany the slideshows for an extra dimension of enjoyment to your photos. Just pick from four visual effects (Simple, Nostalgic, Active and Stylish) and four preset musical accompaniments – then watch the show onscreen with HDTV image quality. The slideshows can be personalised further with MP3 background music tracks imported from a PC.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool Camera. Red Eye a Problem, 27 Nov 2007
I read a lot of reviews before biting the bullet and buying this camera. I had a Sony camera previous to this and really liked it, so stuck to Sony again, especially as Sony seems to have the fastest shutter reaction times, which I thought was important for taking pictures of kids.

I really like the 3.5" touch screen. The menus are easy to use, etc. The quality of the movies it takes are really good, and I've found that it is so much easier than taking my dedicated camcorder with me. Just get a big memory card. It's a great pocket size. The smile shutter is quite cool, but pretty much a gimmick. The outdoor pictures are really good, and the indoor ones are okay.

There are a couple of niggles which I am a little disappointed with .. Because of the compact size and the placement of the lens, you have to be careful not to accidentally put your finger over the lens. Red-eye is the biggest disappointment. Even with red-eye reduction turned on, almost all my photos taken with flash have some degree of red-eye. It is a real pain, having to use software to take out the red-eye. In fact I would even go so far as to say that I don't think the red-eye reduction does much good.

In summary, I like this camera, but I am very disappointed with the amount of red-eye. (My old, cheaper, Sony camera was better). However, great looking camera, easy to use, I like the large touch screen, and I think the movie quality and sound is excellent. Overall I would recommend this camera, but not if red-eye is a big issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning, 25 Oct 2007
By S. Francis (England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this a few weeks ago and have already been on holiday with it to Thailand. Overall it the best camera i have owned. It gives you the all the control if you want to set up your shots, but also gives full auto for those who don't know much about photography. The big screen at the back (which covers the whole back) is lovely, even with full sun you can see it. The zoom is great at 5x optical which is more than you get from other cameras with sticky out lenses!. I simply love the interface. If you like pushing buttons as opposed to touch screen then this is not for you. Almost everything is done via the touchscreen except the zoom and picture take button. You can correct for red-eye in the images without having to download them and correct them, it was so easy, just pushed a button and it fixed the image easy peasy. One of the nicest things it does is the slideshow of your shots. It plays nice music and gives you the show in a very groovy way which of course you can fully customize. It was nice sitting down with my wife and looking through the pictures we took every day. It also has full HD video. To be honest I wasn't sure about the quality, but it even beats my dedicated sony camcorder for quality. Great frame rate and sound. To be honest, you won't need a separate camcorder with this unless you really want pro video. This camera replaces the need for one with most of us. Buy a big card, it'd say 4gb minimum (£30) (1300 images at 8.1 megapixels or 1 hour full HD video) and get some sort of protective holder or case. This is vital, you don't want to damage the touchscreen, I'd even recommend a screen protector. You wont be disapointed, it's small, very sexy and packs a punch. Well worth it.
The T100 is cheaper, but you don't get the Smile recognition software, bigger LCD screen and more photo editing stuff like resize etc.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad picture quality, 11 Nov 2007
By T. Bandy (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Being a chap that trusts Sony products I was really looking forward to owning the DSC-T200 and assumed that Sony would have made a camera that produced fantastic photos as well as all the bells and whistles. Boy was I wrong! This is a great camera, apart from the fact that the picture quality is totally rubbish. My previous camera was a DSC-P200 (7.2MP) and this utterly trounces the T200 on picture quality. Sony have clearly upped the megapixels but thrown away all that extra data by compressing the image to two thirds the size of the images produced by the P200, what a waste! This produces dull, noisy images with a lot of compression artifacts to try and remove some of the noise. The manager in the Sony Center Croydon quite belligerently commented that in order to get the smile detection, touchscreen etc Sony has compromised on picture quality. Totally unacceptable! Don't by this if you value your photos.
