Product Description

HyperCrystal LCD:A semi-transmissive technology used in LCDs, which employs an additional layer at the bottom of the LCD to reflect light from external light sources. This enances the brightness of the LCD, so even in direct sunlight images are displayed sharply and with three times the contrast of conventional displays. Also, it provides for viewing angles of up to 170º without glare or shadow, so images can be framed from a variety of angles and viewed by several people at once.

BrightCapture Technology:A technology developed for better shooting results in low light situations. It works in two ways: i)All available pixel information from the image sensor is used to provide a view on the LCD that's up to four times brighter than conventional types, to make framing easy even in dark surroundings. ii) In certain shooting modes sensitivity is increased (resolution is sometimes reduced), which results in well-exposed images with accurate colour reproduction, high contrast and definition, even when not using the flash.Scene modes that benefit from BrightCapture Technology include Candle, Night Scene and Available Light.

One-Touch Light:With this new feature, the subject in Super Macro Mode will be illuminated automatically (if One-Touch light is set) and by this, the AE and AF functions are improved.

In other modes this function is also available by pressing the menu button for 2 seconds.Subjects up to 2m are clearly seen without using the flash.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bomb-proof little gem, 8 Mar 2007
By P. T. Appleyard (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Exquisitely well built little camera that feels like its been carved out of solid metal. Downside to that is its heavy for its size but does make it feel indestructable!

I bought it for taking pictures where I wouldn't normally dream of taking a decent camera. Beach, little boats, swimming pool, theme parks with children, parties etc.

I had to actually read the manual to work some of the features but that didn't take long. Picture quality is good considering the small lens. Very pleased. Two year warranty is a nice touch too.

5.0 out of 5 stars ITS BRILLIANT., 5 Jun 2007
By ANDY (CORNWALL. UK.) - See all my reviews
A SOLID HONEST CAMERA THATS BEEN DESIGNED FOR A PURPOSE. AND IT DELIVERS. IN THE LAST 3 YRS IVE HAD A NIKON AND A COUPLE OF PANASONICS, ALL GREAT LITTLE CAMERAS BUT THE LAST TWO DESTROYED BY WATER/HUMIDITY. NO MORE FIDDLING WITH DRY BAGS FOR ME.THIS GOES ON THE CANOE OR WHEREVER I GO. I CAN TAKE A POOR PICTURE WITH THE BEST OF CAMERAS, AND SO FAR I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS WITH ANY SHOTS IVE TAKEN, THEYRE AS GOOD OR BAD AS WITH MY PREVIOUS CAMERAS. REALLY PLEASED. BOUGHT A 1GB OLYMPUS HIGH SPEED XD CARD WHICH IS FAST AND I WOULD RECOMMEND THE OLYMPUS NEOPRENE POUCH AS AN EXTRA IF YOU ARE GOING TO GO IN WATER OR JUST COS IT LOOKS GOOD.

3.0 out of 5 stars Olympus 770 sw, 8 Mar 2007
By Philip John Watt (Sydney on holiday) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Bought the camera after suffering the E18 Error message on 2 Canon ixus models. I figured I should go for something without extending lens and dust/waterproof.
The 770 is a heavy beast and quite a bit bigger than the ixus 40 I had, also the picture quality is just not comparable. OK Good points - its seems bomb proof, very good build and looks nice, It IS waterproof etc, i.e the good points are the tech guide above. Bad points, Image quality is not vivid, pictures seem flat. Its not intuitive to use, you have to dive around menus just to turn it into video mode, Some sill design features i.e it turns on with the press of any button on its back (not good when in pocket or case that gets squashed) The Auto white balance simply does not work, again having to go through menu's and find appropriate setting for indoor pictures. The anti blur thing is a bit dodgy, it just changes settings rather than anything else and again does not seem to work. This camera is more a `fun' point and shoot with sports in mind. It is not a photographers camera in any way. One you take a video you cant edit it on the camera so you erase the whole thing or save it. In the Canon you can chose frame select save and erase the rest, Oh and the video is 15 fps compared to many other cameras at 30 and 60 fps. Making the vid jerk about when you pan shots. Plus the memory card has to be XD. A more expensive less common card that will not fit into the card readers found on many laptops now.
