5.0 out of 5 stars You wont regret buying this, 18 Oct 2006
By V. Brean "mangizmo" - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
8MP with 5X optical zoom...great image quality and a very clever "smart scene" function which chooses the correct setting for you (macro/portrait/landscape etc) , it works very well.

This camera uses the same 8 megapixel CCD image sensor as the bigger model P880, and produces great colour, resolution with low noise

The auto mode can be over-ridden and you have access to shutter/aperture priority..loads of scene modes etc

This camera is a sturdy compact design with a very good LCD screen and a nice integral lenscap which closes over the lens when you power down

I love the Panorama feature..you can take up to 3 shots at 3.1MP no flash, and the camera stitches them together to give you a wide vista shot...great feature, takes a bit of practice, but I think I have it mastered now

I very much doubt if any of the competitor models offer better image quality than this, and the price is very competetive

I was going to remove one star for no optical viewfinder , which I would have liked but this is now fairly typical of this class of camera, and composing a shot with the LCD is actually very good now that the resolution of the screen is so high...uses 2 AA batteries which is either a good or a bad thing depending on your personal view...battery life is ok, but always carry a couple of spare AAs as you have to use the screen alot NOTE there is a Lithium ion rechargeable battery pack available for this camera CR-V3 which can be used instead of AAs which lasts for ages so I recommend that if you want really good battery life...buy one (or two) CRV3 batteries and a charger...you will never ever have a problem

If you are new to Kodaks..the easyshare supplied software is the best around...no photoshop you understand, but a great photo management package with loads of great easy to use features

I think it is great, I carry mine everywhere the best small camera that I have ever used...at last a small camera that produces really good results

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS BABY, 4 Mar 2007

I think this is a fantastic camera. The auto scene sensor dodah is brilliant and all my photos have been brilliant. The size for a camera having a 5 x optical zoom is pocketsized, ideal for taking unplanned photos.

2.0 out of 5 stars No image stabilization means blurry shots!, 13 Feb 2007
By A. J. Walmesley "stripeysocks" (Edinburgh, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this camera as a replacement for a Nikon 3200 camera which I loved. I enjoy taking photos but I'm no expert, so I wanted a user-friendly point and shoot camera with the option of manual controls to play with so I could learn how to use them. Initally I thought this camera was great, it's a nice size (strong and compact without being too small) and the smart scene mode automatically selects the optimal mode for your pictures. Also, this camera has a fantastic zoom and a high megapixel count for it's price range.

However, this camera has no optical stabilization, which is unusual for a camera with so many megapixels, and I didn't realise this before I bought it. When I used the camera indoors on 'candlelight' mode or without a flash, my pictures were all blurry (I assume because the shutter speed is longer so it picks up the slightest bit of hand movement). You can take nice pictures in these conditions, but the manual recommends the use of a tripod. This is also the case for night time pictures - mine were really awful despite trying a number of automatic and manual settings. This really isn't what I was looking for - I wanted a camera to take pictures of children and family in natural poses, not have everyone line up while I set a tripod up. I also wanted good night time pictures for holidays etc. The pictures taken outside in daylight and indoors were normally fine with some great detail, but the camera didn't cope well with really bright sunshine as the contrast was too high. The flash was also very strong and tended to wash out flesh tones (very unflattering!).

If you're keen on this camera, I recommend having a go in a store first to see how you get on with indoor pictures (they sell them in currys so you could have a look - but buy the camera on amazon as it's cheaper). I'd also recommend having a look at online reviews such as steves digicams and imaging resource. I've heard lots of great things about this camera, but the lack of image stabilization made a huge difference to me and [...]. I've gone for a sony camera instead and I love it. Hope this helps.
