Perfect for the average user, 1 Aug 2007
I bought this camera after reading loads of reviews on various similar products. It has the ability to play back mp3's and video's etc whcih I've used a bit while abroad and it functions very well as a backup media player I found. Camera wise I can't fault it, excellent clarity on all types of shots, the ASR is also very good for when you're hands are a bit shaky (those drunken nights!). The video isn't bad, but maybe could've been a slightly higher resolution?
Output wise it's also very capable, and I was surprised to find the built in stereo speakers are more than adequate, especially for the odd bit of music while travelling.
I've taken this camera with me on all my travels in europe in the last few months and it still lokks brand new, seems to resist scratehs and drops quite well! I also like the fact the main USB/charger cable is dual purpose, so it is the camera to PC cable, and you can plug it into the mains to USB plug as well...very handy indeed.
Overall I'd recommend this camera to most users who don't require anything too professional, but like something that looks amazing, works perfectly and has a few extra features.

i've never been into gadgets but this little gem of an item got my attention and has held it.
initially the control system seemed ill thought out but then when you consider the camera has so many functions then it must have been a challenge for the designers to come up with a suitable menu display and lay out. within a short time the user starts to appreciate that samsung got it just right.
build quality is also excellent, it feels like it's been carved from a single piece of semi precious metal and my camera has survived being dropped on the floor already without a mark.
i can't fault it.
the mp3 player is far better than i expected it to be. the inbuilt speakers are good considering, afterall, it is primarily a camera. in movie mode it performs fantastically well and the three different still image functions offer lots of variables to cater for all kinds of everyday photographer.
this isn't just a holiday accessory for me now but a piece of equipment almost as useful to me as my mobile phone.

I bought the Samsung NV3 camera from Amazon after a lot of research. I wanted a camera that was small, took good pictures and had quite a few different features that would be quite easy to use.
The camera looks really good, and the screen on the back is huge (much bigger than on my old Sony camera). You are able to watch films or tv episodes on it if you want to, and there is a short music video preloaded so that you can see how they look on the screen. You can also listen to MP3s on it, and a pair of headphones come with the camera. This wasn't why I bought the camera, but they are a nice feature if you don't have an mp3 player or don't want to carry around a load of electronic equipment.
There are quite a few different photo modes to choose from, and they can easily be set up by turning the dial on top of the camera and pressing a couple of buttons on the back. There is a fantastic function called 'wise shot', for indoor/low lighting photos, where it takes two shots at once when you press the shutter button, one with the flash and one without the flash, with the anti-shake reduction on. It then lets you preview both photos and choose the one you prefer, which is great if you're not sure if you need a flash or not.
There is an 'auto' mode on the camera which automatically adjusts the exposure/shutter settings depending on the lighting etc, or of course you can do it all manually if you prefer. There is an anti-red eye setting also, and a function to record video with or without sounds. There are some other functions on the camera which I haven't had time to play with yet as well!
The pictures are very good quality and I would highly recommend this camera as it looks great, it's really good value for money and has a lot of really good functions on it which are easy to work out and allow you to take exactly the sort of photo you want :)
