5.0 out of 5 stars M-I-N-I-M-A-L, 19 Jul 2006
Possibly their finest moment since 1993's Can you forgive her?, this electro paeon to minimalism finds the boys in Tate Modern mode. A moment for reflection during the dark and brooding Fundamental, the single version retains the catchy as hell chorus and Peter Hook bassline of the original. Still the finest pop(art) group in the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars All Good Things Come To Those That Wait, 1 Jul 2006

After a few hit and miss albums of late (Nightlife & Release), the Pet Shop Boys return to form with Fundamental, and the stand out track is Minimal. Once listened all the way through, you immediately start thinking three things. Firstly, classic Pet Shop Boys. Secondly, the guitar is pure New Order. And the third is the strings that kick in at the end of the song...lifted it sounds straight from Papa Don't Preach by Madonna. Do I have any issues with any of that..No way. Even hearing the song live as I did at the Tower Of London, it's clear that this song has the lastability that some of their recent singles clearly will not have. Don't think about buying the single...make sure you do, and if you haven't bought the album, double your purchases and buy it, preferably the two disc edition with the sublime Fugitive, and then ask yourself, how did they make this a song they just added to a limited edition album....are they mad....or just on top of their game!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfection?, 15 Jul 2006
By H. Baki (Salem's lot, trying to survive) - See all my reviews

Simply yes. Pet Shop Boys have always been the true kings of the pop arena, well-ahead of their so-called rivals and Minimal is a showcase of the underlying reasons. It is catchy, it is post modern and it has that matchless magic which only the Boys have offered to the world: Haunting dance music. Neil's vocals are suberp, Chris' keyboards are to the point, Horn's production hits the mark and lyrics are scarce but extravaganza. In a perfect world, this would be an instant number one...but for the time we have to close our eyes and pray for Shakira to disappear.
