5.0 out of 5 stars Samsung... on song!, 2 Jan 2007
By DJP (Norfolk) - See all my reviews
I am a Canon digital SLR owner and I wanted a camera that I could use for days/nights out with my friends when composition and facilities of an SLR such bokeh (out of focus areas) are not necessary.

I did not expect much from a compact camera, especially as Samsung does not have a great reputation in digital imaging compared to Canon, Nikon and Fuji... but this camera is awesome... If you say YES to the following a) - h) Then this camera is for you.

This camera is perfect if you want;

a) Small and light camera
b) Large screen
c) Operates with cheap memory format (SD)
d) Has great battery life - I took 350 photos the other night - all with flash!
e) Cheap compared to big photo brands such as Canon and Fuji with the latter having a more expensive format of memory (xd)
f) Lovely colours within image, well saturated
g) The PMP is a great bonus, watch movies and listen to music - nice all round package, software on PC is easy to use to convert files.
h) 2 Year guarantee with Samsung (most cameras only have one year)

Downside (These aren't major issues, but might be handy for music lovers, dedicated photographers and impatient people ;))

- This will not replace an iPod, due to the lack of options and the sound quality is not quite as good, however if you go on holiday or have limited storage available to you (e.g. a handbag, rucksack) and if you have this camera it means there is one less thing to take to the beach/day trip/night out and one less thing to get get stolen/damaged
- High ISO noise when in Auto mode - noticeble by ISO 200. To combat this, put the camera into program mode and set the camera at ISO 100 and use flash (perfect for night time shots as 90% time you dont need ISO 400 and flash)
- Unable to erase photos instantly once they are taken. You have to go into playback mode and then erase (thus not handy when you know you have taken a bad photo)

Overall a great camera.

One word of caution - rumours have it that the 'Samsung i7' will be coming out in Spring 2007, which i'm sure will mean 7 Megapixels and a 3" screen (not confirmed). I for one will not be replacing this i6 for a long time, and the product is covered with the 2 year guarantee, which is excellent should anything be faulty.

5.0 out of 5 stars quality camera, 25 Sep 2006
I can wholeheartedly recommend this camera to everyone. Very easy to use with useful automatic settings that can easily be operated manually for all kind of cool shutter effects. My only criticism would be in video recording mode, the sound cuts out when zooming. This is easily avoided by not zooming....! Look, just buy it

5.0 out of 5 stars You Won't Be Dissapointed, 26 Dec 2006
By M. Newman "Milkman" (Essex UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
For five years I've had a 4 million pixel Fuji Finepix 4900Z with 6x optical zoom that took excellent pictures. However, I now have more need of a compact camera (The Fuji was bulky) that could be taken just about anywhere. I'd heard from some that that the compact cameras tend to sacrifice picture quality for their compactness despite their use of high numbers of pixels.

I first purchased the 7 megapixel Pentax M20. This camera did seem to support that view, producing pictures that my daughter's 2 megapixel fuji A205s knocked spots off. The pictures were so dissapointing that I got a full refund and purchased the Samsung Digimax i6 after looking at the excellent reviews it got on both Amazon and elsewhere.

These two cameras were as different as chalk and cheese.

I've had the Samsung i6 for about a month now and am very impressed with it.

It is not as versatile as my old Fuji 4900Z as it doesn't have the manual options, but it has enough auto settings to cover most situations with a very easy to use menu system to set them.

As well as taking excellent outdoor pictures it takes very clear indoor photos, the flash having a very good range for such a small camera.

The steady shot function works well as do the PMP functions and related software, though in my view this camera is well worth the price tag even without these latter functions.

In my view, if you want a good compact camera you will likely have to go a long way to beat the Samsung i6 for build quality and picture quality for the price tag.
