Fantastic! At long last a complete retrospective of the 7 girl outfit's work featuring ALL the singles, hits and misses, 12" mixes, b-sides etc all wrapped up in a sumptuous 16 page fold out booklet with great pictures and extensive sleevenotes by an informed autority on the band!! This is a long overdue and exciting release. Dont delay, add it to your 1980's collection today!

It is strange that, given the plethora of 'manufactured' all-girl combos doing the rounds, The Belle Stars are not more rightly acknowledged as being the forerunners of the likes of Girls Aloud, Spice Girls, etc. The big exception is, of course, that The Belle Stars were no put-together-by-committee outfit, but a genuine playing and gigging band. This collection charts their course brilliantly, from the spiky indie-ness of their debut single, 'Hiawatha', to the more glossy pop productions of their defining global hit, 'Sign Of The Times', and the genuine song craft of 'Indian Summer'. What makes this collection such an unexpected pleasure is that the songs are more familiar than you think - the band truly were radio favourites of their time, and on the evidence of 'Belle-Issima' certainly deserve to be held in the kind of regard reserved for the likes of ABC, Altered Images and other early 80s contemporaries. There's a flair and genuine excitement in hearing these tracks again that makes you think that life in Thatcher's Britain was made a little more bearable by having the Belle Stars around. A safe investment for your entertainment Euros.
