With new civilisations, units, technologies and game types, Age of Empires 2: The Conquerors Expansion is a solid add-on that will certainly appeal to fans of Age of Empires 2.

Like the original, The Conquerors Expansion pack concentrates on producing more vast kingdoms, more ambitious civilisations and gorgeous graphics. Couple this with the improved AI and new challenging scenarios and you have an add-on, which is not merely more of the same.

The five new civilisations, range from the Huns to the Spanish with four new campaigns surrounding them. Choose the Spanish and you get to play the infamous El Cid, whilst playing the Huns will allow you to charge across Europe playing Attila the Hun.

If the idea of new civilisations isn't enough to please any fan of the series, then perhaps the introduction of 26 new technologies probably will. Here, the addition of Chinese Rocketry and British Yeomen are just to name but a few that will have you taxing your mind on how to use to your advantage.

Whilst The Conquerors Expansion concentrates heavily on more single player campaigns and more civilisations to explore, the game adds another three game types to the multiplayer section of the game.

"King of the Hill" is based on victory begin obtained by possession of a monument in the centre of the map at the end of the countdown. Wonder race, on the other hand is a more peaceful option and based around pure economics. Allied together so no battles can be fought, the aim is to earn enough money and resources to build a wonder, whereas the third option is to hold control of the wonder for a 400-year period.

Age of Empires 2: The Conquerors Expansion offers a lot more as a mission pack than most; whilst at the same time bringing some nice new features to what was is already an impressive game. -- Stuart Miles

I refer to Age of Empires II as a whole, not just this Expansion pack.
In the game itself, you start from humble beginnings - a scout, a tiny village and a few workers. From here, you must use your own cunning to become to strongest civilisation on the map - maybe even build an Imperial Age 'Wonder of the World'! It's all down to you!
Also, you get to relive the campaigns of various great heros of the ages - William Wallace, Joan of Arc, Genghis Khan to name but a few.
Research technology, improve your army, expand your town - and of course beat the living daylights out of any rival impudent enough to use you for a punch bag!
The Expansion Pack allows you to do all this and more, featuring new technology, new units and new campaigns.
And even if you run out of campaigns and maps, you can always use the built-in scenario editor and make your own!
Basically speaking, this is a great medieval strategy game, both enjoyable and educational.

I don't know a single game that either myself or my friends play for more than a week or 2, either alone or multiplayer. I don't know one we compare tactical tips on.

If you buy one game in your life, buy Age of Empires and the expansion packs. 2 Years and still playing. With Windows XP, multiplayer just became a lot easier too - FANTASTIC

Well do I really need to answer this question? If you liked AoE 1 or 2, then u really need this expansion pack to liven it up. With 5 great new tribes, loads of extra units and tonnes of new, improved graphics, this is a must have pack. Microsoft have yet again shown their superitority in the market with the excellent Windows ME released and with Age of Empires 2, still in the Top 10 charts a year after its release, shows its class. As for the price maybe a bit high, but for everyone who loves the AoE series its a must have. Well done Microsoft and your developers. This is well and truly a must buy package, so click now to order it!
