4.0 out of 5 stars Not Jarre's most Revolutionary album, 17 Dec 2000
"Revolutions" is Jean Michel Jarre's album release from 1988 that coincided with his rain-hit "Destination Docklands" concert in London. The album has some very good tracks - the superb title track (for later releases it's the superior 1990 Paris La Defense version retitled "Revolution, Revolutions") and the very moody "Industrial Revolution" which features some nice Depeche Mode-esque type sounds. Also worthy of mention is "Computer Weekend" which almost seems like a continuation of "Oxygene Part 6", and "the Emigrant" which makes a stirring uplifting end to the album.

Sadly there are some rather cheesy tracks on the album too. "London Kid" featuring Hank Marvin of the Shadows on lead guitar is rather apalling, and "September" is decidedly cringeworthy.

Having said that, the moments of Jarre genius shine through, and for that it's well worth getting the album. Not a classic Jarre album, but still very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr Jarre at his very best, 30 Jan 2000
Of all his work during the late 80s, Revolutions is his most brilliant (in my opinion of course). Rendezvous comes a close second, but the sheer diversity and quality that shines from each of the album's ten tracks, just pips his earlier masterpiece to the post. The enigmatic Frenchman, who so often shys away from a public life, reveals, during the 45 minutes, a side to his personality that all fans of his will enjoy. It's a side that didn't suface again until Chronologie, a side that we'd all like to see a bit more of. To describe any of his albums is like trying to describe a colour, or an emotion, in that it is near impossible. The pleasure I get from listning to this particular album is greater than the feelings for any of his other work.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sorry but it's only worth 1 star, 18 May 2003
Let me qualify this rating. I am a big fan of Jarre, especially his first two albums and after hearing them I decided to get all of his albums. This one is, by far, the worst. It lacks any of the soul and imagination of Oxygene or Equinoxe. It is a mess. Don't buy it unless you want a big dissapointment.

I'll be blunt. I like his works as much as the next Jarre fan, but I find this album very lackluster. Read more

Revolutions could of been better. You always get the impression with this work, that Jarre was well on the way to writing a full symphony with the Industrial revolution movements,... Read more
