5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, 21 Jul 2004
By Lynsey Irving (Edinburgh, Midlothian United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Since I love the film, I knew the soundtrack would be pretty special too. I wasn't disappointed. The first track - the Overture - is a powerful blend of vocal and instrumental that can't fail to get you in a 16th century mood! The requiem is also an inspiring piece to end the selection. Every track is full of quality, and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Magnifque', 26 Jan 2008
By Richard Matthews (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Good work by Hirshfelder, modern Tudorist tracks engineered for the film with Elgar's classic Nimrod and Mozart's Requiem finishing off an extremely enjoyable album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forget the golden age soundtrack, 23 Dec 2008
A thousand times better than the 'Golden Age' soundtrack, although 'End Puddle/Possible Suitors' was a great track.
Hirschfelder's soundtrack seems to suit the film alot better as it makes the viewer believe that they actually have gone back in time, you could almost imagine that you are in Elizabeth's court, standing next to the musicians, especially on the song: 'Coronation Banquet.'
Shekhar Kapur should definitely have stayed with Hirschfelder for the second film, he makes it intimate whereas Craig Armstrong and A R Rahman's seems to be out of pace with the 'Golden Age.' Kapur probably thought that the audience would appreciate a new sound to Elizabeth's world and we do but only if it twins with the film.
Highlights on this album are: Love Theme, Night of the Long Knives, Coronation Banquet and Rondes; although evertytime I listen to these songs I can't help but play the scenes in which they belong to in my mind.
Truly beautiful music, strongly recommend this album ... forget the second soundtrack, opt for this one instead, worth every penny.
