5.0 out of 5 stars Unique collection of photos from Old and New Cumnock, 23 Dec 2000
By A Customer
One of a series of 'In Old Picture Postcards' books and now very difficult to find in your 'High Street' bookshop. The two-page introduction gives a brief history of the two parishes of Old Cumnock and New Cumnock and how they were formed from the original Barony of Cumnock in 1691 (for more detail see Rev. J. Warwick History of Old Cumnock).

This is followed by a fine collection of over 70 black & white photographs / postcards from Old and New Cumnock's past. These of course are the real stars of the book showing people , places and events in both communitiies throughout the 20th century.

Of particular interest to the genealogist will be the number of group photos (e.g. Old Cumnock parish school 1910 or Bank School , New Cumnock Girls school club )generously supported with surnames that are still common in both communities and which no doubt have since been scattered across the globe.
