5.0 out of 5 stars An excellant starting point for learning the art of qigong, 26 Jan 2002
Qiogong is an ancient chinese excercise desgined at promoting health an longevity. Being a martial artist myself, i personally found this book very benificial as qigong excercises can enhace your martial arts skills, although does offer many other benifits including improved energy levelsand a greater sense of wellbeing.
The excercises in this book are not specifically geared towards martial arts, and will give you a stepping stone to reach higher levels.
If you would like to start practicing the art of qigong, or would like to gain a deeper understanding of this facinating exercise, then 'Secrets of Qigong' is the place to start. The book takes you from the begining, starting with the history of qigong, and how it was developed which gives you a feel for the art, an aspect which is lacking in many of the traditioal books. Secondly, it introduces the fundamentals of qigong, including an explanation of qi, energy centers and breathing. You are then taken through each excerise thoroughly from warm up to finish, with detailed explanations on theory and what what you should be thinking and feeling. The pictures are clear and easy to follow. The final section sets the bok apart from others in it's field by expailing how qigong can be used in everyday life, while trainig, doing deskwork or even parenting.
Overall i found thi book to be an excellant all round starting point with a jargon free, easy to follow format, which has helped take me to higher levels, and a deeper understaning of qigong.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not great either, 20 Mar 2007
All of Angus's books seem to share a certain lack of grit. They are very nice to look at but no real sense of anything else. Lam Kam Chuen's Way of Energy is so much more extensive and detailed than this title.
