Product Description

Combines stories and anecdotes about orchids with photographs and practical growing information. The book includes details about the rare expensive Blue Vanda Orchid and many other exotic varieties.

From the Author

Think about this for Christmas giving.
It has been great fun rolling around Asia and the Pacific collecting stories and pics for the book. Even more-so, the joy of receiving e.mails and response from so many corners of the globe shows me how powerful the love of orchids really is. I have just finished reading Susan Orlean's The Orchid Thief and am currently falling over myself laughing with Eric Hansen's Orchid Fever. What great writers. My stories don't cut as deep, but there are some funny twists. Like hunting down Dendrobiums in Hawaii in the middle of the night. And fronting tigers orchids in the bar of the old Raffles Hotel in Singapore. Being chased by a French speaking black cockatoo in Western Australia. And running around New York with a hole in my belly looking to flog Phalaenopsis. That and a drove of color photographs beautifully reproduced by (thank you) my publishers New Holland. And thanks Amazon

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning photography combines with witty style!, 10 Dec 2000
By A Customer
"Like oysters, crusty French bread, and salt-rimmed margaritas, orchids are an acquired taste" writes Max Fulcher. One thing for sure, a single glance inside the covers of this book and you'll be hooked! Stunning photography and cultural information imparted in a witty conversational style are a winning combination. Through humorous anecdotes and interesting travel stories the author instructs and informs. The book is full of essential growing tips for the care and cultivation of a wide range of commonly found orchids - dendrobium, vanda, phalaenopsis stanhopea, cattleya, laelia, cymbidium, odontoglossum, paphiopedilum - are all lovingly discussed. For the orchid lover a feast, for those new to orchids, an eyeopener!
