Product Description

Product Description

Part of a series of books for the keen walker, this is a guide to 100 circular walks, ranging from 3-12 miles in length, in Warwickshire and the West Midlands. The walking territory in these two counties remains largely undiscovered, as they are better known for their towns and cities, such as Stratford and Leamington, but there should be walks to appeal to all tastes. Each walk has a map with points of interest and refreshment places detailed en route as well as suggestions for easy car parking. The route descriptions and maps are on facing pages of the book for easy reference.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for beginner and the more experienced rambler, 2 Nov 2001
By A Customer
The instructions are clear, with a grid reference given for the start of each walk. Sketch maps accompany the instructions - but I would suggest the use of a Landranger/Explorer map as well.
Directions include the location of refreshments (usually, but not exclusively, pubs) and some interesting notes on points of interest along the way.
A range of terrain from urban walks to the farthest flung corner of Warwickshire. However the inclusion of some walks towards the Black Country - but which are technically West Midland walks - is a bit of an odd combination. Having said that I wish they would publish more like this - our copy is now very battered and walk-weary. Thoroughly recommended for family use.

1.0 out of 5 stars Get lost!, 11 Aug 2009

This book is a disaster. The maps are terrible and walks can start with the instructions 'turn left out of the car park' and the map clearly shows a right turn, or you can be walking through a village which is not marked and see something marked 'house' where there isn't one. There are also instructions like 'turn left after a clump of trees' when you are walking through thick woodland. Other useful landmarks are completely ignored.

There are also gross omissions, like failing to mention that a walk skirts a large working quarry that will cover you in filth or that you are passing close by some fascinating points of interest.

Maybe all the other people who would like to write bad reviews are still wandering about lost in deepest Warwickshire.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best used as a basis, 6 Jun 2009

This is a worthwhile book if used as a basis for going on a particular walk.
But be warned that additional material will be required as the maps used to illustrate the walks are only thumbnail sketches and are only intended as a guide. You may be able to use Google maps rather than buying detailed maps every time for each walk.
