Product Description

Product Description

Texture is one of the most important tools for the practising artist. It is relevant to all our senses and never fails to invoke an emotional response. Flashy and gratuitous use of texture will make a work appear coarse and unskilled; lack of texture will make a work look flat and lifeless. In this book, Tony Paul shows you how to use texture sensitively and achieve the perfect balance in all your paintings. Creating texture need no longer be a daunting prospect for the artist. Following on from his books "How to Mix and Use Colour" and "How to Create Light in your Paintings", Tony Paul presents this structured course on the understanding and practice of textural control. The book is divided into eight chapters, each covering different areas of painting including landscapes, seascapes, still life and portraits. Paintings by Tony and other artists are used to bring the information and the teaching to life, functioning as examples of the points being made.

About the Author

Tony Paul trained at Bournemouth Art College. He started showing his work in local exhibitions then exhibited in national galleries, including the Royal Academy. He divides his time between teaching, writing and, of course, painting. He's a regular contributor to Leisure Painter magazine and is a consultant to Daler-Rowney. His paintings are held in many private collections, including the Duchy of Cornwall. Tony lives in Bournemouth.
