Product Description

A year has passed since Ben Holiday bought the Magic Kingdom and claimed his throne - despite the machinations of the wizard Meeks. Three loyal friends have come to his aid: the incompetent Court Wizard, Questor Thews; the court scribe, Abernathy, a talking dog; and the lovely Willow, who is sometimes a tree. When Ben dreams that a former partner, Miles Bennett, is in grave trouble, he travels back to Earth - only to find Miles in the best of spirits. But his return to Landover is not so uneventful: not only has Willow disappeared and Questor's books of magic been destroyed, but no one seems to recognise Ben himself. Looks like the magic kingdom is in real trouble...

4.0 out of 5 stars Once again a story of supreem magic, 23 Jan 2004
By A Customer
Ben Holiday after a year of being King of Landover dreams that his friend and former partner Miles is in terrible trouble and so returns to Earth only to find Miles in the greatest of spirits. After returning to Landover and finding Willow and Questor Thews gone Ben is uneasy. His mood is only to be further darkened as Meeks, the man who sold Landover to Ben returns to Landover and through his rather more effective brand of magic steals Bens appearance and turns Ben out into exile. Worst of all Bens medallion, which control the pallidin has been replaced with a black medallion bearing the appearance of the wizard Meeks. With his friends gone Ben can rely on only two people Filip and Sot (who are not the best of characters to stand by your side in an emergency). With the River people, the Lords of the Greenswald and everyone else he knows under the rule of Meeks Ben must fight for his throne, convince his friends of who he is as well as dealing with the myth of the Black Unicorn, the disappearance of Questor and Willow and the ruin which Meeks is causing in Landover.

4.0 out of 5 stars Terry Brooks - The Black Unicorn, 28 Aug 2002
This review is from: Black Unicorn (Hardcover)
This is the second book in the series of Terry Brooks's Landover Novels. Ben Holiday is a laywer from Chicago, who a year ago, purchased a Magical Kingdom for $1m. All had been peacefull and calm for the High Lord, until he gets a disturbing dream about his old law partner, Miles Bennett, in the dream Miles is struggling with the work that Ben left behind. Ben can't stand the guilt any longer, and goes back to Chicago to check on his old partner. At the same time Ben's Wizard, Quester Thews, goes off in search of the missing books of magic, as was shown to him in his dream. And a third dream was sent to Willow, Ben's companion, about a black unicorn that she must go in search for. When Ben returns to Landover, he find that Meeks, the old court wizard who had sold Ben the kingdom, had returned to Landover, only to take over in Ben's role. Worse still Meeks has stolen Ben's identity, and Ben appears to everyone as a common worker. This book sees the travels of Ben, searching in vain for the answers to all his questions, where he is accompanied by a prism cat, Edgewood Dirk, who tries to help him get his identity back, before the Kingdom of Landover is lost to the evil Meeks forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and original, 4 Sep 2001
By A Customer
This was the first fantasy book I ever read when it first came out, and I enjoyed it so much I have since fallen in love with the genre.

The second in the "Magic Kingdom" series, the book is full of twists, tricks and the excellent and diverse characters of the first book.

A good all round fantasy book, especially for those younger fantasy readers (the novel is more orientated towards magic than battle) For the more mature stories, try Brook's Shannara series.
