Product Description
Synopsis
Here are more than 100 illustrated crafts and activities that encourage kids to have fun and be creative as they learn about Native American life and values. There are projects that reveal the essentials of everyday life and ways to enjoy special celebrations. There are things to wear, toys to make, games to play, snacks to taste, and songs and dances to perform. Amidst all the fun, kids will discover traditions and skills handed down from the people who first settled in North America.

From the Author
Teachers love this book!
I know, because I was teaching kindergarten when I wrote it. My students worked for weeks on a unit about Native Americans, and thought of many of the projects in the book. That summer I spent months researching everything I could about Native American culture, then created projects for kids that make the history and culture come alive. I enjoyed myself at powwows and dances all over the Southwest and in Idaho. One thing I love is frybread, and I found a quick way that kids can make it. Want to make clever silver and turquoise jewelry, in the preschool classroom? Think macaroni and foil, and a tissue tube! More Than Moccassins is full of supersimple ways that kids can learn and have fun at the same time. Oh, the book was a finalist for the Western Writers of America Golden Spur Award, and picked Buyer's Choice by the Museum Store Association.
