3.0 out of 5 stars Helpful but covers too much, 4 Nov 2003
By A Customer
I ordered this book on the strength of the previous reviews after suffering my second miscarriage.
The author is superb in capturing exactly how it feels to lose an unborn child BUT by choosing to also cover other types of child loss (such as terminal illness in children, abducted children and the death of an adult child) I found myself more distressed than helped by it.
Whilst still grieving for my lost baby I simply couldn't cope with all the harrowing stories of people losing babies and children later on in life as well.
The author is very brave in giving a frank account about her own loses and subsequent feelings but I think the book would better serve those who have recently lost an unborn baby if she had chosen to keep to this area only. It intensified my grief by opening my eyes to all the other many ways a parent can lose a child and I would not pass it on to anyone who had recently miscarried for fear of upsetting them further. A shame because I agree whole-heartedly with all she has to say on the subject of miscarriage and still-birth.

5.0 out of 5 stars True comfort for those who grieve!!!, 2 Jul 1999
By A Customer
I have read this book several times and it has helped me tremendously. I have had 4 losses of my own (still waiting for that litttle one) and can attest how immense the grief is. I have read others books on miscarriage but this is the first one that truly expresses the emotions and thoughts one has as they go through this very difficult time. The author does a great job accurately expressing the different aspects of child loss. What helped me the most was knowing that there were others out there that had the same thoughts I did. There is something about reading other's experiences that helps heals one's heart. Everytime I hear of someone who just had a miscarriage, I run out and buy them this book. It truly offers comfort, insight and hope. God has carried me through so much and He used this book to speak to that part of me that hurt so much! It truly speaks from the heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Help with coping with a stolen promise, 18 Jun 1998
By A Customer
I wish I could give it more than five stars!! A tremendous book on coping with the loss of a child not yet born. This kind of loss is like a stolen promise, the promise of life for another. My own feelings, as a husband have been suppressed to be strong for my wife, this book has help me to greive and return to my God and my wife a whole man. My understanding of why we experienced the loss allowed me not to be bitter toward my Lord, but I was still angry, now the anger has melted away. Clara, thank you for your honesty and transperancy.
