About the Author

Robert D. Halpert, M.D., is Radiology division head and residency program director at Henry Ford Hospital and Medical Centers. A dedicated educator, Dr. Halpert was originally selected to lead this volume in the series because of his vast teaching experience and his recognized ability to communicate effectively. His experience as residency program director keeps him acutely aware of the needs of radiology residents, a perspective that drives the pedagogy ofthis book. Dr. Halpert is well-published, having co-written The Radiology ofInflammatory Bowel Disease (Saunders) and contributed to Pharmaceuticals in Medical Imaging (Macmillan) and Handbook of Gastrointestinal Imaging. In addition, he is the author of numerous journal articles, abstracts, and scientific exhibits.

Peter J. Feczko, M.D., is section head of gastrointestinal (GI) radiology at Henry Ford Hospital and Medical Centers. Highly recommended by Dr. Halpert, Dr. Feczko replaces Philip Goodman, M.D., as co-author. Dr. Feczko has published a substantial number of journal articles, many of them with Dr. Halpert. Additionally, he has co-edited two volumes in the Radiological Clinics of North America (Saunders) and contributed chapters to some major GI radiology texts, including ?Radiology of the Small Bowel? in Handbook of Gastrointestinal Imaging (Churchill), ?Gastrointestinal Manifestations of AIDS? and ?Radiology of the Rectum? in Radiology: Diagnosis/Imaging/Intervention (Lippincott), and ?Gastrointestinal Manifestations of the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome? in Margulis and Burhenne?s Alimentary Tract Radiology, ed 5 (Mosby). --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars GI Imaging The Requisites (3rd Edition); Review by a Year 2 Radiology SpR, 28 Mar 2007
Summary: An excellent grounding in GI Radiology, highly readable.
Reviewer: Year 2 Radiology SpR Scotland UK

I found this book a pleasure to read. It provides an excellent grounding in GI radiology for the trainee, and is an excellent reference book to have handy. I used it to revise for the FRCR 2A exam, and as a member of the 'Requisites' series it very much 'does what it says on the tin'! (ie it is reasonably succinct). Unlike other weightier tomes, I managed to read it cover-to-cover, which for a medical textbook is pretty much a first for me, and a credit to the accessible writing style used by the authors. The illustrations are excellent, and there are plenty of useful lists in separate boxes.

The approach is slightly different to other texts, and is based on abnormalities and potential differential diagnoses. For instance, under a general heading of, say 'thickened gastric folds', the authors list and then discuss all the relevant pathologies which could cause this. Reading the whole book, certain diseases may crop up several times under the same chapter, which helped to embed details at the brainstem level for me. Images are well chosen to illustrate points, are clear and a decent size.

This is a textbook I will return to again and again. In future editions, I would like them to include a little on GI interventional techniques, as this is outside of the scope of the current book. Otherwise, well worth owning.
