5.0 out of 5 stars I still draw sheep the way Ed Emberley taught me..., 14 Sep 2001
By A Customer
Christmas presents from our American relations were always glamorous, but no present was as much loved and used as this book. After my sister was sent it, she shared it with me for the next decade, copying the animals in it and using it to make up our own. It breaks each animal (and bird, insect, reptile etc.) into its constituent parts and shows you how they should be put together to make the complete creature. As far as I remember, the dedication showed a picture of Emberley as a child with the caption 'For the boy I was, the book I could not find' and I always felt sorry for that little boy, waiting to grow up so that he could write the book for which he was waiting. I am now buying it for my godchildren and finally, thirty years on, I'm getting my own copy. I still draw sheep the way Ed Emberley taught me.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most memorable book I owned as a child!, 30 Sep 1998
By A Customer
My mother ordered this book for me a long time ago when I was a child- and to this day it remains in my memory as one of the most valuable books of my childhood. The techniques are simple and easy- step-by-step basic geometric shapes are assembled to create all kinds of animals, reptiles, birds and even a dragon! I am thrilled to discover it is still in print! I highly recommend it to anyone who would like to learn to draw without a lot frustration and complicated ideas. (It is geared for children, but I think adults could use these techniques too).

5.0 out of 5 stars Once seen never forgotten!, 23 Mar 2009

Fantastic book, I still draw the elephants like this. Got it in America when I was nine back in 1980, didn't know it's still in print.

It's a terrific book for the inexperienced drawer. I purchased this (and other Emberley books) for my 3 1/2 year old son and am enjoying learning to draw as much as he is. Read more
