Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The cream of the pop compilation is back once more as Now That's What I Call Music Vol.49 serves up another double disc of hits from the UK pop charts. As ever it holds a plethora of number ones from the likes of DJ Pied Piper ("Do You Really Like it"), Robbie Williams ("Eternity") and Hear'Say ("The Way to Your Love"). Also included are some of those global, all-conquering hits which lingered for ages like the soulful hip hop of Outkast's "Ms Jackson" which was actually released a few months before the previous instalment of the series, Now 48. The only downfall of this great compilation is as with the inclusion of Outkast or S Club's "Don't Stop Movin", much of the material is quite old at the time of release or already heavily featured on other albums like Smash Hits Summer 2001. Maybe they're saving themselves for the half century but having said that, apart from some bizarre inclusions at the tail end of disc one (don't even go there), almost every song is a classic of 2001. --David Trueman

2.0 out of 5 stars The Now Compilations just keep getting worse..., 26 Jul 2001
By Bruno Mertens "cyberghandi" (Bruges, Belgium) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Don't get me wrong - this is NOT a terrible album. But I wouldn't recommend you to buy it.

As ever the Now series come out with songs that are terribly outdated. The following artists are featured on the CD with old hits while they all have new tracks already in the charts as you read this: Geri Halliwell, Wheatus, Outkast, Destiny's Child, Janet Jackson and Eve. But what I don't understand is how some of today's biggest tracks aren't featured on it (like 'Lady Marmelade' by Christina Aguilera, Mya, Pink and Lil' Kim, 'Pop' by Nsync or 'Loverboy' by Mariah Carey and Cameo). Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Missy Elliot, Faithless, Travis, Brandy & Ray J, 2pac, Daft Punk, Limp Bizkit, Incubus and D12... never heard of 'em? Instead we get Bellefire and the A*Teens? Hello? And what's up with the remixes? Why can't we get the radio edits from the Gorrilaz and Eddy Grant?

I have every single Now album but this is the one time I'll have to skip... Please change your formula before it's too late...

1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing wrong with compilation albums, but....., 4 Aug 2001
By A Customer
Once again, the next edition of this popular compilation is presented to us. I have no problem with that, if fact, I own all of them up to volume 45. But then it suddenly dawned on me that I was only buying them to naturally add to my collection; the actual contents on these disks are slowly deteriorating. Lets face it-the majority of modern music is really bad!!! Monotonous tunes, bad singing....what's happened to talent? Did it go out of fashion?! Albums like this highlight the state of the modern music industry right now. Some modern music I really enjoy, but that counts towards about 0.01% of it! I really dread to think what music will be produced in the next 10 years or so. No, I'll re-phrase that: I really dread what music will be released tomorrow, because surely it can't get much worse than what's on this album!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Now its time to get rid of the NOW'S, 3 Aug 2001
By A Customer
Although this is a good compilation it would be good to release it before or just after the songs are released to save buying the single then the compilation, i must admit i was surprised not to see Lady Marmalade, Perfect Gentleman and Bootyliciosus on this cd as they are recent top choons maybe they will appear on NOW 100!!!! It does have Eternal Flame on it wow how up to date that one song is, i think now is the time to stop buying then nows and buy the up to date cd's. I wouldn't reccommend it unless u have been away for 4 months.
