‘A riveting story, absorbingly told.’ Ireland on Sunday on Rosemary

Rosemary is a story of survival, strength and of a young girl’s quest for love. It’s an absorbing read, so well crafted that your heart will beat just a little faster as you’re drawn into the riveting battle between heartbreak and hope.’ Daily Record

‘Kaine is a fantastic storyteller and has a knack for connecting with the reader and making her characters seem true to life.’ Woman's Way on Rosemary

‘A perfect novel . . . Kaine is great at conveying the tough times following the Second World War. Beth is an inspiring heroine, and readers will love her rise from rags to riches.’ Irish Tatler on Ring of Clay

'Stands out from the crowd…There is much more than just a girl-meets-boy-wedding-bells-happy-ending to Kaine’s book…Sub-plots are skilfully woven into the tale, but it is her studies of the relationships between her characters which single the novel out.’ Leicester Mercury on Ring of Clay

‘A beautiful romantic novel of tragedy, loneliness and new-found feelings…an absorbing tale that captured me from the first words.’ Harborough Mail on Rosemary

‘Kaine has a gift for storytelling.’ Woman’s Way on Ring of Clay

Product Description

Vibrant Maureen Matthews has always been a ‘deep one’ and dreams of a life beyond the Potteries. Then, just like a scene from one of her beloved movies, she meets handsome, charming Trevor Mountford. He seems to be everything Maureen ever hoped for and when he asks her to marry him she has no hesitation in saying yes.

When married life doesn’t turn out to be the ideal Maureen thought it was she starts to question both her life and her love. Then she meets Greg Barlow. He’s completely different from what she thought she wanted – but everything she ever needed.

Can she put aside her past and finally find true happiness? (20040717)

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent read, 15 Jul 2004
By Elaine Borthwick (Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Girl of Her Time (Paperback)
Having read Margaret Kaine's previous two novels, Ring of Clay and Rosemary, I eagerly awaited the third. A Girl of Her Time did not disappoint. Coming from the Potteries I identified with the characters and reminisced about the evenings spent dancing at Trentham Gardens. Maureen's slow descent into depression at the hands of the controlling, selfish Trevor and her journey, with the help of her friends, to rebuild her life was excellently written. I look forward to reading more of Kaine's novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful read., 30 Aug 2004
This review is from: A Girl of Her Time (Paperback)
I've read both Ring of Clay and Rosemary, but A Girl of Her Time is my favourite by far. I warmed immediately to Maureen, a typical girl of her time as the title says, but she's no wallflower. Her gutsy determination kept me reading.
If you're not one for family sagas don't be put off. Margaret manages to combine nostalgia and gritty realism to great effect. Not just a novel for the middle-aged reader either. My daughter aged 19 read it on my recommendation and loved it too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprising Reality, 21 Nov 2007
By Richard Peterson (Lincolnshire UK) - See all my reviews
As a male reader, I approached this book with a measure of prejudice about Romantic Fiction, only to be pleasantly surprised. The realism of the story held me throughout, the characters are totally believable and likeable, the family backgrounds thoroughly grounded. The biggest surprise was to find that the book tackled with sensitivity and sympathy thought-provoking issues about emotional and sexual mis-match within marriage. It does not flinch from facing difficult issues. I recommend it.
