Product Description

CD Description

On its third album, Wishbone Ash doesn't mess with its formula--as before, this long running British rock institution purveys a mix of blues, folk, and Yes- style riffs mated to endearingly cosmic lyrics. The songs here, however, are considerably more focused and well crafted than on the band's previous efforts, and the harmony singing is delightful.
As always, the band's basis is the tag team guitars of Andy Powell and Ted Turner. Fans of this duo's mix of Yardbirds- andAllman Brothers- style harmony licks and dueling solos willfind much to admire here, particularly "The King Will Come"and "Time Was", a folk-ish epic in several contrasting sections. All in all, ARGUS is one of the best guitar albums of the early '70s.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly brilliant album... Buy it, 21 April 2002
By A Customer
Last summer my band and i were practicing at our guitarist's house, working on a new song i had written with a duel guitar riff, when his mother came in and commented on how much it sounded like Wishbone Ash. Who? Wishbone Ash. Being only 15 at the time i had not heard of them, and so she lent me Argus. Immediately after hearing it I got myself a copy and have since found it difficult to find an album that betters it. From the superb opening of 'Time Was' I was hooked. An album of consistency on every track; brilliant vocals, outstanding guitars, great drumming and some fantasic bass playing (check out 'Sometime World' to see what i mean).

This is Rock at it's best. BUT BUY BUY!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars After 30 years, it is still magical, 13 Jan 2005
I remember hearing this over 30 years ago, (indeed, I remember listening to this on a recorder looking at endless sea whilst in the RN).
The magic of this album has never faded, and maybe is even more magical today, when there are so few truly unique sounds around. All of the tracks are awesome. The highest praise I can give is I can start the album and listen happily all the way through to all the tracks, each one having it's own special magic.
When I want to travel to that special place that has only the joy of true music, I put on my headphones and this album. Nobody else ever came close to this.

5.0 out of 5 stars the 70's at their best, 5 Dec 2002
This album is arguably one of the most influential recordings ever in terms of guitar duels. It perfectly demonstrate what a great time the 70's were, for instrumental quality and above all excellent songwriting. I'm pretty sure the name of Martin Birch rings a bell to every single Iron Maiden fan, and yet Argus is by no means Heavy metal. It's pure groove, with awesome drumming singing and bass playing too (check out "sometime world"), epic songs...the list never ends. So why is wishbone ash unknown to most Rock and heavy metal fans ? Why don't people remember what great guitar players Andy powell and Ted turner are ?I don't know...what I know though is that there's nothing more delighting than finding someone who knows wishbone ash and...thinks Argus is a masterpiece !
