PLOT...
High School is Hell! Metal-thrashing Brodie is an outcast in a sea of jocks and cheerleaders until he meets a kindred spirit in fellow metalhead Zakk. After starting their own band, Brodie and Zakk’s resentment of the suburban wasteland leads them to a mysterious piece of sheet music said to grant Ultimate Power to whoever plays it. But the music also summons an ancient evil entity known as Aeloth The Blind One, who threatens to tear apart existence itself. Their classmates and family become inhabited by demonic forces, tearing out their own eyes and turning into psychotic murderers, and this is only the beginning! It’s up to Brodie, Zakk and their group of friends to stop a force of pure evil from devouring all of mankind.

This is certainly one of the coolest horror releases in a while, this is not your average cheap straight to DVD release, this is a great budget movie that's gone along way to be as original as possible, there's not many good rock themed horrors out there that's for sure, the story is great fun from the cool animated open credits right up until the blood soaked end, the cast is all really good, lots of new talent here, the blood and gore in this movie is sensational, im surprised this movie has a 15 certification and not an 18 due to the amount of awesome graphic bloodshed! this movie will certainly appeal to every gorehound out there, its not a musical or anything so don't be put off if metal is not your thing, its a wild demonic rock'n'roll themed slasher horror that really quite a little gem!

Available on DVD (Or Blu-ray Zavvi limited edition only)
No features which is a shame
Blu-ray has a great HD picture if you can get the superior version.
Region B, 86-mins, 2015. English.

Deathgasm was a great new horror comedy from New Zealand. It was a high octane, energetically edited, funny, gory as hell, non-stop thrill ride! Think The Evil Dead meets Shaun of the Dead meets Metal! and you'll get the idea of what to expect. Borrowing heavily from the Sam Raimi/Peter Jackson school over-the-top violence and gore, director Jason Lei Howden delivers a film where corpse paint and corpse parts share equal importance on screen, and the result is a top notch horror comedy that should leave fans throwing devil horns up in the air and cheering with delight.

After his meth addicted mom is found unfit to care for him, metalhead Brodie winds up under the care of his conservative christian aunt and uncle alongside their testosterone fueled jock son. Feeling like an outsider within his own family, Brodie soon joins up with other nerds and outcasts Giles and Dion. Though he's glad to have new friends, Friday nights spent rolling twenty sided die aren't his cup of tea. What Brodie really wants is to rock, and a chance meeting in the local record shop with the town's resident troublemaker and metal head Zakk leads to male bonding and the formation of Deathgasm, their metal band built on shredding guitar solos and mutual love of grind core. The two somehow click and before we know it they’ve broken into a rock legend’s home, stolen some strange sacred sheet music, formed a band and got to work making those notes into beautiful noise. But what follows after playing this new tune could never have been predicted, and when the gates of Hell open up it falls on the shoulders of Brodie, his band and his new love interest, Medina to save the world.

"Deathgasm" is a low-budget indie comedic teen horror film from New Zealand. It has some nice one-liners, particularly early on, suitably over the top gore and, while uneven, is a lot of fun. I enjoyed it.

-------spoilers-------
Young metal-head Brodie (Milo Cawthorne) has to go and live in a small town, with his God-fearing uncle and his family, after his Mum has an unfortunate episode with Santa at the mall, while under the influence of "recreational pharmaceuticals".

There he meets two nerds, Dion and Giles, who like to play Dungeons and Dragons, but fortunately also seem to be able to play drums and keyboards, when called upon to do so. In addition, he meets the older ex-pupil Zakk (James Blake, who did remind me physically of Heath Ledger).
Led astray by Zakk, Brodie enters the house of legendary metal star in hiding, "Ricky Daggers" to find the old man lying on a mattress clutching an old album of his. He gives it to the teenagers for safe keeping, just as an evil henchman arrives and kills him.

Brodie, Zakk, Dion and Giles, who have formed the band "DEATHGASM", (it has to be in capitals, apparently) then play the music hidden inside the album sleeve, which unleashes the spirits of evil demons who possess the locals, sent to pave the way for the arrival of "Aeloth" at the witching hour of the next blood moon. The spirit of Aleoth will possess the "darkest soul" in his vicinity when he arrives.

The remainder of the film is a variety of very nice gory set pieces, with lots of knowing references to heavy-metal cliches, which work well with the young cast.
