I absolutely loved this psychological horror. It was a super fresh take on the genre that I've honestly never seen before. I was scared, I laughed, I felt for the characters and I had a really strong curiosity as to how it was all going to end. I'll let you watch it to find out! These five characters all have to work together to survive what are pretty awful circumstances to say the least (that's Hell, folks), and there are some beautiful set pieces that are worth the download / DVD price alone. The score and cinematography help add to the tone and the varied but nuanced performances (especially from the leads) brought the inner and outer battles to screen in a really gripping way. Definitely check it out!

This was an interesting and at times gripping film, but i was a little confused by the premise that "only the pure go to Heaven" and because of this,Heaven is empty. Also i thought the ending did not properly tie things up,but non the less, the film kept my interest throughout and is worth a look.

"AfterDeath" is a modest budget indie film from the UK (hurray!), directed by Gez Medinger and Robin Schmidt. For a low(ish) budget indie, I thought it looked good (though the exterior shots were a bit too dark), with some solid acting by the main players, with a very nice central idea. It is not a horror film, more a novel twist on a ghost story come psychological drama. I enjoyed it.

------spoilers-------

5 people, all connected in some way to a deadly accident in a night club, find themselves on a small island at night, with a beach hut and a lighthouse. They are also all, well, dead.

Robyn (Miranda Raison) is the last to arrive and finds three of the others involved in a half-hearted threesome. They apparently have already worked out that they're dead and are making the most of it. (Kid's today, eh?). Another character appears to be able to switch between there and back to the living. Another brought with them a cooler full of vodka which they were holding onto when they died (well, we all have our own belief systems, I suppose!). For all being just dead, they were remarkably calm about it (not too much soul searching or metaphysical discussion going on here).

There is a dark spirit lurking (think the black cloud from "Lost"), which appears when any of the characters think or do something "sinful". Also the "bubble" they are in seems to be shrinking. At one point a character surmises (somehow) that all they have to do is remain pure until the bubble contracts and they will get into heaven (I think). The spirit (who they capture in a box and torture with vodka) reveals that heaven is empty and everyone goes to Hell, because everyone sins.

Great cast, with outstanding performances by all. Not exactly scary but many high energy moments, as well as a good few laugh out loud moments by Seb's [Sam Keely] sarcasm and Robyn's [Miranda Raison] attitude. The other three ladies were amazing, but I don't ant to spoil this film by giving away too much.
Watch this movie.

Seen some negative comments about the third act and that's a shame. Seems like marmite for a film with some real ideas to try out. It's no gore fest but that's not the point. I personally I liked the quietness of it, just gives the ideas room to breathe and having seen so many god awful british horror films that just resort to slash and dash this makes a welcome change. That and the mainly female cast. Go Miranda!

A very interesting concept and entertaining watch. I had to watch it twice to get the most out of it though, which is always a good sign!
