Enjoyed this one a lot. Although, the story is certainly lacking it more than gets by with its witty one-liners and generally obscene comedy. What i liked the most was the fact that it pokes fun at itself in the 3rd person. Such as the opening credits, its a title sequence but instead of the cast’s names they are replaced with dismissive descriptions i.e. “some idiot”, “moody Teen” and “British Villain”.

While Deadpool does link with the X-Men universe, with two of the mutants showing up in this film (only two as is hilariously pointed out in the film), you needn’t have seen any of them to enjoy Deadpool (and is the better for it in my opinion).

Ryan Reynolds was the perfect cast choice for this part due to his sarcastic, comedic delivery and provides consistently amusing screenplay. An approach done well by Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark in Iron Man but done in a slightly different direction here.

Action wise its violent, real violent, and gory. Along with the nudity and language striped down it seems to rely on it. This has been done before in films such as Blade and Kick-Ass. But it really is the humour that sells this film along with it’s self-aware aesthetic.

For those of you who didn’t know already, Deadpool is defiantly not your usual superhero movie. Which is a good thing, in that anyone can enjoy this film, whether you’ve seen every superhero movie or none.

Deadpool, if you casually dip in and out of the comic genre, is a superhero. You may have heard the name somewhere on screen before, but probably forgotten. However, if you know your comics then you probably salivated at the prospect of seeing the ‘merc with a mouth’ going toe to toe with Wolverine in the X-man’s ‘origins’ movie. Then you watched it and uttered words that no self-respecting spell checker should let me type.

Basically, the makers of Wolverine: Origins completely messed up (putting it mildly) and the fans were not amused. Yes, Ryan Reynolds was actually a pretty good choice for the gobby anti-hero, but then they pretty much cellotaped his mouth shut and completely reinvented his character in the worst way possible. It actually makes a nice change to see a studio admit they totally got it wrong and do something about it (even if the decision is largely governed by money!).

And that could have been that. However, luckily Mr Reynolds himself campaigned to bring a truer representation of the source material to the big screen. And, amazingly, it happened. And I’m so glad it did.

Deadpool, is a superhero movie. You probably guessed that – you have the man in a mask who you pretty much know is going to go out there and beat the baddies and save the girl, yadder, yadder, yadder... However, what Deadpool also is, is a comedy. That being said – it’s NOT a spoof. It’s a tongue-in-cheek little number which has better action scenes than most action films and better comedy than most comedy films.

I’m almost tempted to say that it’s a film that anyone can enjoy. I can certainly see both men and women having a good time watching it. However, it definitely is a film for MEN and WOMEN.

I hate action movies. I hate super-hero movies. I hate sitting for three hours watching men squirt testosterone out of their fists at each other while someone hired to support a pair of Gigantic Boobies™ jiggles around or whatever.
And I bloody love Deadpool.
First movie I've seen in nearly ten years that I'd watch twice in the same week.
If a movie can make me sit and watch an action sequence without me resorting to flipping open my 3DS to crush the boredom, then it's gotta be really good.
I've had a weird history with superheroes. I love the idea, but I a hate action movies, and of course superhero movies are action movies. Deadpool is neither. As the titular character himself explains at the beginning, he's not a hero, and this is a romance movie. The story has heart. It's the first "superhero" movie I've seen where the protagonist's actions actually make any sense, which is ironic given Deadpool's reputation.
It's also a kick-ass movie with a deranged hit-man as the protagonist. The movie is very self-aware. Unlike so many other superhero movies, it doesn't pathetically try to pass off this universe of spider-people and exploding children as "realistic". It doesn't shove gritty edgy realism in your face and start trying to hump generic action into you. It embraces the fiction and runs with it. The action sequences are supported by wit and some clever directing. It also keeps up with the fast-paced, attention-deficient era we now live in. No one thing runs on for too long. Yet, the pacing isn't too fast, either. It slows down where appropriate, pulls back, reminds us what's important, then jumps back into the knob-gags and violence.
It's like watching an R-Rated live-action episode of Animaniacs where people die. A lot.
